InDesign Part II and PSD Cutout Trainings

October 2, 2020 By Megan Fletcher

Making trainings: InDesign Part II and PSD Cutouts

Poonum and I have been hard at work making the InDesign Part II: Flyer Design training! I made the banner for the KB today. I’ve also been working on a training for cutting out objects in Photoshop that went on the KB on Wednesday!

Canvas Graphics and CLIO

September 18, 2020 By Miguel Yapur

CANVAS Graphics

I made a variety of designs for the UT Search Committee Workshop’s Canvas website, here are some of the buttons I created for it:

CLIO Basic Training

I (almost) finished my basic training for my CLIO website. I’m feeling pretty good about it and Thuy’s been really helpful with helping out in the details.
Here are some snapshots of it:

PSD Flashcards Basic Training

I just started this basic training. My theme for these flashcards is travel (on an airplane) and I’ve chosen the following pictures for them:

Here’s how the first flashcard is looking so far:

Photo Editing

Here are three pictures from STAs that I edited the background off:

Today I began studio course graphic training and did some IDs, as well as met with the Assistant Director of British Studies’ site to discuss proposed changes to their site.

Here’s an example of the IDs and the draft for the studio graphic training:

The ID was good quality so it didn’t require much editing, the only change I made was add some noise to her face as the filter she seemed to be using looks a little heavy-handed.

PSD Painting

September 3, 2020 By Poonum Mehta

I feel like I’ve spent a decade working on this teapot but it’s definitely paid off!! I’ve never considered myself skilled in fine arts. I can put graphics together and can kind of trace things, but paintings always been lost on me. Getting step-by-step feedback from Abriella for this assignment was sooooo helpful and I feel like the hard work really paid off. I understand shadowing and highlights so much better now. Luckily, because of how many times I resubmit photos of this teapot, I’ve documented the whole process:

First, I drew out the background shading:

Then I added in some highlights (pretty harsh ones now that I’m looking back):

Adding in the spout gave me some kind of highlighting/shadowing clarity:

From here, the other elements of shading made more sense. I now knew how to delicately add in bits of dark and light to create depth without having harsh lines. Final product:

Next week I’ll work on creating my OWN painting, which I’m sure will be an entirely new challenge, but I’m looking forward to it!

AI Live Trace

AI Live Trace Training

I use Live Trace a lot at the Daily Texan to vectorized stock icons for infographics, but I rarely use it for photos, so this training was neat to do. I have a Macbook Air, though, so every time I tried to copy the AI vector into Photoshop, my computer got hot and froze up. It seemed to work with just one vector layer instead of multiple, though.

Photo IDs Training

Photo IDs

I had so much fun editing these photos. It was pure happiness when I saw my edited photos on the actual website. Even though I faced a few challenges on the way, I was glad to overcome them. I can’t wait to have the opportunity to work on some more.
