Logo Design

April 27, 2026 By Julie Brandt

Personal Logo Design

Timeline: 2 Days

Task: Create a logo for yourself

Status: Complete

Final Logo Design

I wanted to create a logo was simple and carried my minimal style of design.

Process

First, I started by sketching different ideas. I was stuck on this for a while, but then decided to just make some of them in Illustrator and see what happened.

Feedback

Along the way I got lots of feedback of how I could improve my logo. I tried to mess around with different colors, but ended up really liking the outlined design.

Final Design and Reflection

After picking my final logo, I added secondary text and make a few mockups of where my design could be used. In the future I might change the colors, but right now that’s my favorite. I hope this logo represents my desire for simple design, with a polished finish and quality.

Course Poster Design

April 27, 2026 By Julie Brandt

Psychology Course Poster Design

Course: PSY 309: Personality WB

Timeline: 3 Days

Task: Create a course poster for any course that is rooted in typography and highlights key course information using hierarchy.

Status: Complete

Final Poster

I wanted to create a poster that was playful using imagery from many psychology courses my roommate takes. I often see letter blocks when peeking over her shoulder, so I decided to use that as my starting point. After much iteration and feedback this is the final poster!

Process

First, I started with a basic layout structure. Then I started creating assets in Illustrator which was a lot of fun. I learned how to make pixel art using the live paint tool.

Feedback

Before getting to my final design, I wasn’t happy with how the poster looked. There was something very flat about it so I asked for feedback from Lila and she helped me push my design further. I messed around a lot with where to the the “WHY” and how to orient them. I finally settled on the star-step look because it filled the space well while still providing a lot of movement.

Final Design

After showing my designs to Lila, we decided this was the best design because it followed the color scheme that I had created and had fun movement. Lila also really liked how the mouse connected with the lines to lead the eye through the poster.

Reflection

I had a lot of fun with this design and I was really happy that Lila kept pushing my designs. There were a few times I got stuck, but in the end I’m happy with the results. If only this would be used for the real course…

Dell Med x COFA Coffee Table Book Styling

April 22, 2026 By Julie Brandt

Dell Med x COFA Coffee Table Book Styling

Clients: Dell Med x COFA Students

Team Members: Kate Shih and Julie Brandt

Timeline: 2 Weeks

Status: In progress

Original Task

The clients requested assistance on their capstone project that is a “coffee table” style book that represents the future focused direction of AI in the medical field. Kate and I created several layouts for different spreads requested: Framework/diagram, section opener, front & back cover, copy-heavy body (with pull quotes/graphic) spread. I created several iterations of the section openers and the framework/diagram designs.

Inspiration

Before we got started, we had a rough idea of what the clients wanted and synthesized their ideas with our own to create a moodboard. We wanted clean, versatile typography, so we chose to use Avenir for the body and Lexend for the display font.

Alterations

After reviewing our designs, they decided to pivot in terms of how we could assist them in completing the book due to their tight deadlines. We moved from designing layouts to sourcing assets that they could use in their book design.

Reflection

This project was unique in it’s timeline and request. Although I didn’t get to explore layout design as in depth as I would like, I was still able to learn how it feels to work with and for a client.

Week 3

April 14, 2026 By Julie Brandt

Tier 3 Course Graphics: For this training, I explored creating Motion Graphics and animating using After Effects. I continued working on the interaction design course and found other ways of visualizing the class.

Re-working my portfolio: I have made many different portfolios in the last year. I’m still grappling with how I want it to look and flow, but for this week’s meeting, I focused on transferring my most recent portfolio to a new template on Framer. I wanted my case studies information and process to be simple and easy to digest, but I don’t want to strip down too much of my hard work. Right now, it doesn’t look too different, but I’m working on changing the hierarchy and clarity of my case studies.

Week 2

April 6, 2026 By Julie Brandt

Tier 2 Course Graphics: For this training, I have explored creating Studio Graphics and have experimented with creating unique course graphics based off my past experience taking this course.

Status: Complete

Inspiration

I started by creating a mood board with images associated with the content of the class, the professor’s website, color scheme, and other supporting visuals.

Creating Studio Graphics

I found sources from Adobe Stock to include in the graphics and altered them to fit templates, create backgrounds, and support my theme.

Feedback

After creating all the studio graphics, I got feedback that the background for the wall monitor was a bit too dark. I tried different color overlays and images, so the professor wouldn’t blend into the screen, but wasn’t happy with any. So, I got more feedback from Lila and finally added a bluish overlay to brighten and balance the bright neon green.

Final Sheet

After adjusting all the studio graphics, I put them into the template file.

Reflection

This was a good experience for me to explore creating a visual identity for a course. Although it was very structured and had many pre-existing templates, I think the iterating process was helpful and could be applied to future projects.

First STA Blog Post

April 1, 2026 By Julie Brandt

This is my first week at LAITS and I have gotten more familiar with the workflow and workspace. I’m still getting used to the login process, but I’ve had a good experience overall!

Overview of this week:

  • Completed STA orientation tasks such as creating a slide deck recap, banner, bio, and avatar
  • Had my first weekly meeting and talked about apples!
  • Tier 1: Course Graphics Training

Tier 1: Course Graphics Training

For this training, I chose a past course I’ve taken and got the hang of using specific Illustrator and PPTX templates for course graphics.
