During my 6th week as STA I continued my web development project for the university’s Psychology Labs. Using the WordPress Multisite, I drafted a new template for the Developmental Behavior Genetics Lab. Afterwards, I reached out to the client for their approval. Week 5

the fifth element

MAY 15th  – 18th

During my 5th week as STA I continued my Web Dev Basic training using Interneting is Hard tutorials.

I also began working on a web development project. I am integrating Google Analytics into the university’s websites using VS Code.

 

UTFC Greenscreen Edits

Project: Reverse Greenscreen Image Sourcing
Notes: A handful of STAs were tasked with finding royalty-free images and uploading them into a PowerPoint. This assignment is similar to the green screen image search for vocabulary words except I’ve been using Google Images to reverse image search the pictures that have been used for previous assignments for proper attribution. In addition, I’ve been finding substitutional photos for the images that have no attribution or not from a royalty- free site.

 

UTFC Studio Testing

Project: Backdrop Color Testing
Notes: Since UTFC plans on recording its lectures this summer, I had the opportunity to go inside the recording studio to test backdrops for the lecturer. I could see the backdrops in real time and edit them to the correct display such as altering contrast and saturation inside Photoshop. So far we’re almost done with the first course for recording. This time around Valerie and I went in to look over all of the backdrops for course 2.

Notes: Aside from doing studio backdrop testing for UTFC, I also have to heavily edit some of the backdrops. It’s a fun process but some of the backdrops require more labor such as removing people or advertisements like in this example in Abidjan here:

 

Week 4

During my fourth week as an STA, I cataloged data from the WordPress Multisite into the LAITS Site Hosting List using Airtable. I also worked on a few more trainings. There are some screenshots of my work below.

 

Week LXXV

Biostats logo

Mostly just worked on this this week! One thing I did was make the vector logo an actual transparent vector. The old version had a lot of opaque fills for the overlapping sections.

It took some creative use of the pathfinder tool to slice it up the right way.

Unfortunately the end result isn’t that impressive at a glance because the goal was to make it visually identical to the old version, but trust me that it took a lot of work.

Also, the animation. This went through a lot of iterations, most of which I didn’t export, but here’s the final (?) one.

UTFC Greenscreen Edits

Project: Greenscreen Image Sourcing
Notes: A handful of STAs were tasked with finding royalty-free images and uploading them into a PowerPoint. As a team, our responsibility is to insert the correct copyright info into a Spreadsheet our Art Director, Maddy, had made. I’ve been going through many images that are suitable for the vocabulary words. Lately, I’ve been working on finding images for vocabulary words based on the city Marrakech, Morocco!

Notes: This week I was asked to help create a ppt file in the title cards folder on box for the professor to make make title card slides. There’s a specific theme and style that must be formatted for the professors and course material. A previous STA had made all of the graphics so all I had to do was past an image into PowerPoint and upload.

Notes: This week I was asked to help update course graphics such as banners and backdrops in Canvas  for the professor’s Canvas page. There’s a specific theme and style that must be formatted for the professors and course material. A previous STA had made all of the graphics so all I had to do was edit the name of the instructors in the graphics and upload.
