Basic Trainings

AI Logo Basic Training

I enjoyed this training very much because I got to play around with designing a logo based on my initials. It was really nice to see how many variations and concepts come up with only two letters. Here’s a couple of iterations I made while looking into my logo:

I ended up choosing the fourth design, which is symmetrical and forms an ambigram. Here are are some variations in color based on this logo:

I ended up choosing the duo-toned blue logo since it emphasizes the duality of the orientation of the logo. Here are some mockups of different merch items the logo could be on:

Finally, here’s a version of my logo including my full name:

Color Wheel Basic Training

I really enjoyed learning a bit about color theory and the additive/subtractive aspects of color. Here are some progress snapshots of the design I went with for my color wheel:

Course Graphics Basic Training

I just started this training. So far, I’ve come up with a few different mood boards for the style of the course: Earth’s Dynamic Environment II.

These are the three mood boards I’ve come up with:

Moodboard 1:

  • Earthy tones with satellite images of landscapes
  • Font: Noto Serif

Moodboard 2:

  • Cool tones with images of different stages of water
  • Font: Rubik

Moodboard 3:

  • Green tones with images of green mountainscapes
  • Font: Alegreya

And here are some digital backdrops I’ve come up with based on these mood boards and feedback from Maddy:

TXP

More Texas Politics!

I got my TXP social graphic templates approved yesterday, almost right on time! There’s still a lot of work to do for Texas Politics, but I’m looking forward to it. I’m taking a class on reporting on the state government (I’m writing a story on HB 160 as I write), so this project has been a lot of fun for me.

This week has been pretty calm! I’ve been working on Photo IDs and some miscellaneous trainings mostly. Here are some of my IDs. I’ve had to reach out to another individual to ask for a resubmission unfortunately 🙁

Also I miss traveling so much, and as soon as I heard about this cafe called Sketch that has a pastel pink room filled with David Shrigley prints I just knew I needed that vibe, so I did the AI Pixel Art training with one of my favorite pieces of his! His art is pretty minimalist and approachable, and the piece I chose only used a few colors, so it wasn’t difficult to render it in pixel art form.

Texas Politics Progress

Texas Politics Progress

I’m making a lot of — you guessed it — progress with the graphics for the TXP’s speaker series graphic suite! The Texas Politics Project’s goal is to engage and educate regular Texans in state politics, beyond the occasional scandal in the press. They hold an annual Speaker Series to facilitate this. For TXP, I used colors scraped from their site and logo and fonts that were academic and professional, yet crisp. If you’re wondering, the cowboy in the background isn’t anyone in particular, just a Texas Ranger statue.

A Busy First Week

January 22, 2021 By Ingrid Alberding

Hello! Classes started this week, and it’s been a busy one. Already I am swamped with readings and preparing papers and presentations. I also worked on a variety of different assignments this week as an STA. I continued work on HIS 315K, and today we almost finished our presentations. I also started prepping a presentation for next Monday’s meeting.

I also started with Suloni’s COLA help request, where apparently users cannot view Box files on incognito mode on Chrome, and we need to update the help guides and help bots accordingly. I’ve started a Google doc to add to existing documentation, complete with updated screenshots and descriptions.

Finally, I updated the STA blog to only display current STAs. Have a good weekend!

Study Tips video and ISPRII logo

Study Tips Video is done!

After some intense couple of weeks, I am very satisfied with what my team accomplished with the Study Tips video. All animated objects were created as independent, unique assets in Photoshop files that were then imported into After Effects. I was mostly involved in the scenes that show a laptop, a calendar, a whiteboard, and some pamphlets. Below are some clips of these scenes:

Here are also some clips of the After Effects interface, while working on the video editing:

ISPRII Logo Update

I’ve also been working on some more versions of the logo and wordmark for ISPRII, using two different fonts and working with the hierarchy of the phrases of the name of the organization to create a cohesive look.
