SUMMER 2025

— Hecho En Texas —

This was the first project I worked on during the summer. I was tasked to create assets for a pressbook. It was a new type of project to me, but I found it similar to course graphics. (Still in progress during this time)

I was excited to be assigned another poster! The theme for my particular poster is Pop Art. Exploring different iterations was so fun- especially for the Keith Haring designs.

UT in Context Website Redesign

UT in Context Website Redesign: Sweatt v. Painter

UT In Context requested a redesign of their existing website (https://utincontext.la.utexas.edu/). By the time the project was handed to me, the site had already been modernized. What the client wanted me to do was to create pages that showcased their physical Sweatt v. Painter gallery in a digital manner.

The site originally looked like this:

I liked the idea of having a separate page for each wall; however, I felt that the navigation buttons laid out in the cardinal directions was a bit clunky. My main goals going forward were to make navigation intuitive and to lay out all the information in a visually appealing and non-overwhelming way.

My next step was to mock up the pages on Figma:

Interact with the mockup here!

I then created a map to help guide visitors to the physical location:

Summer 2025

August 29, 2025 By Kate Shih

Summer 2025

This summer, I went home (California) and got the chance to work for local government. I helped them add new sections to their website, as well as created some marketing materials!

Check out what I did below:

I added a new section to their website catered towards the older population. This included revamping their 50+ Program’s web presence, as well has adding a resource hub.

Visit the live site here: https://www.losaltosca.gov/660/Aging-Adult-Resources

I also got the chance to do a bunch of graphic design work:

Aside from my local government work, I also did some work for LAITS, pursued some side projects, hiked by the ocean, and ate a lot of ice cream (dairy free, of course).

I also made a cat friend ฅ^•ﻌ•^ฅ

Texas German Phonology Poster (TGDP)

This banner is part of TGDP’s “linguistics of Texas German” mini-series. I was given the information and photos that go on the poster, as well as a couple of reference posters.

Here was the first draft of the poster:

Final Post

July 11, 2025 By Lila Mali

Not a goodbye but a see you soon!

This will be my last blog post as a design STA. However, I won’t be completely gone as I’ve taken on the full time position in the design lab at LAITS! I’m super excited to continue working here, meeting new STAs, and getting to know the rest of the staff. I would like to thank the design managers De’sha and Valerie for taking me on as an STA and taking the time to help me and understand my goals. I’ve grown significantly as a designer and animator here and I can’t wait to see what else is next. I’d also like to thank all the STAs i’ve worked with as everyone has been super kind and insanely talented. I’ve learned so much from everyone.

Now to go onto what i’ve been doing lately.

Roster Poster updates!

This has been such a fun project to work on. We’ve made a lot of updates to the poster.

Here was the first update.

The first change was just an overall addition of detail. The docks have bricks, the houses have lines and more windows, and there’s an additonal building to fill up space. We decided to adjust the layout a bit and adding a fun detail to have the title incorporated into the smoke.

With this, we realized that the portaits maybe a bit too small and so they needed a size adjustment.

This meant adjusting the buildings to be bigger.

My face for reference. This is what we’re working with so far. There will be further adjustments in the future but for now, I really like how it’s coming along

What Jane Saw Website Badge

────────────────────⊹ ࣪ ˖♡˖ ࣪ ⊹ ────────────────────

.

.

For this project, I was tasked in creating a small badge that informed that a 3-D module would be coming soon to the What Jane Saw website! When drafting, I had to keep in mind the typography and color palette already on the website! Thus, these five initial drafts were formed!

.

.

After getting feedback from De’sha, I added a paper texture to the badges and created two more badges that were less rounded! Next, the badges were off to the Stacy who De’sha and I have been collaborating with for this project!

.

Once Stacy received the badges, we were informed that they were ready to send to the client for her thoughts! I sent my email with the above drafts and waited for her response for the next steps! The client had emailed me back and the draft that she picked was…(drumroll please)!

.

.

.

BADGE NUMBER 6!!!

.

.

She also informed me that the 3-D module will only be in the 1813 side which is the side that has the pink and brown color palette! What I really like about this badge design is that it can also display the What Jane Saw logo! Next step was of course to finalize the design with the logo!

.

.

.

Now the final badge was completed! I also made some photo edits to what the badge would look like in various places of the website! All that’s next was to inform Stacy of the client’s approval and soon see the badge on the website!
