August 23rd, 24th, & 29th

August 30, 2022 By Leilani Cabello

On the 23rd I worked on finishing up my American Studies tiny card project for the American Studies department. I ended up making 3 versions for the client to choose from with the logo on from and a QR code on the back of the card.

On a side note, I received an update on one of my previous projects for the AMS department. Here’s a photo of the AMS Banner I had done a while ago in the flesh!!

For the 23rd & 29th, I mostly worked on backdrops and banners for the UTFC project. Although I did have a small assignment like making a quick backdrop for the Art History Department, specifically ARH 301 again. It’s a backdrop for the Intro to Visual Art’s pre-roll videos.

The remainder of my time went to many UTFC backdrops and banners. Below are the backdrops and banners for Brazzaville, the Capital of Congo.

And here are the backdrops and banners for Kigali, the capital of Rwanda. That’s all for now!🤓

Week XLVI

August 30, 2022 By Adrian McKee

Week XLVI

I spent most of this week stuck at home. Boo! I’m lucky I had the sort of straightforward, simple work to do with my limited editing capacity at home, but it doesn’t make for very flashy blog posts.

Photo IDs

The bulk of my time this week. You saw the spreadsheet last week. My main addition, besides a few dozen entries, was a dropdown on the Grad Students page for the department + sender contact, since searching that every time was getting tedious. Doing some Workflow Optimization.

Texas German Dialect Project

Remember this? I got instructions for a new layout, which essentially entailed redoing all of it. The newest draft:

Unfortunately, I’ve forgotten quite a bit of how InDesign works in the meantime, and did not realize until the time of writing how much of the text I cut off! Today, I’m going to get Maddy’s help with some typesetting and spacing. Oops.

Week 7/15 – 7/18

August 23, 2022 By Leilani Cabello

For this week, I had a pretty productive and fun time! Lots of new projects like animating and making logos!

I finished my animation from my previous blog post where I had to make a quick segment that displayed a request from the professor in ECO 304K.

I did a minor tweak on the TxPEP logo along with re-creating some new icons for their branding style.

I made a quick TA banner for ARH 301:

And I got to start a new project for the Department of  American Studies again! The professor was looking to have their new AMS logo on one side of the tiny card and a QR code on the other side. Here are some rough drafts I whipped up:

Week 9

August 23, 2022 By Luisa Matzner

First week of school! This week has been a lot more toned-down now that most of the course graphics are done. I’m glad we were able to finish most of them by the start of the semester. I’m particularly proud of my work on NTR 306 Fundamentals of Nutrition, and I hope it gets put to good use this semester. I also learned about new software and skills over the course of these assignments. I feel a bit more confident about animating, but there’s still so much to learn. Lastly on course graphics, I wasn’t able to see my work in the studio, but here’s a photo of what the GOV 310L monitor looked like in-person. One of my favorite parts of being a designer is seeing the work in use, so this is really exciting!

This week, I’ve been mostly working on the backlog of French class graphics that have been assigned to me. Most recently, I’ve been working on backdrops, which is pretty fun work.

That’s my week so far! I’m excited to see what the semester will bring.

GOV310L & GOV312L

August 23, 2022 By De'sha Bass-McClellan

GOV310L Animated Intro:

For this animated intro, I was given a selection of various images and I was tasked with create a simple intro with images appearing and disappearing. Originally, I had multiple images on the screen at once and they were in their rectangle form. However, to match the original assets in the course, I rounded the images and added a blue overlay.

GOV312L Animated Intro:

Before taking on this animation edits, I thought I would need to recreate the entire design before I could animate. However, I found a BEAUTIFUL thing that you can import PSD files into After Effects too!!!! This has most definitely changed my life. With that, I was able to retain the image quality and their positions to all them to move across the screen.

MKT320 & AFR303

August 23, 2022 By De'sha Bass-McClellan

MKT320 & AFR303

For MKT320, I was tasked with flipping the images on the vertical monitor to be the correct way. This was the original monitor:

This is the edit:

For AFR303, I had to create a vertical monitor for this course. I wanted to create something that would match the original course graphic backdrop.

This was the original design I came up with, but it was still missing elements to draw it into the asset family.

To adjust the changes, I decided to provide spaces between the images and lower their opacity. In addition, I broke up the red bar to match the backdrop. We decided to also go with the all caps version to create a cohesive design.
