Solar Architecture, STA Showcase, PSD Flashcards

1. Canvasser Activity

After a couple of weeks of working on it, I am pleased to say that my Canvasser activity, titled “Solar Architecture,” has been finished. The purpose of the game is to teach the players about the awareness that is needed to design effective shading in buildings and houses based on the location of the solar path throughout the day, the orientation, and the placement of windows on each wall. The game has four sub-activities, one in each wall of a house, in which the player is prompted to measure windows to determine the area, measure the height of a floor to determine the appropriate height of a tree, and at what time do certain walls start or stop receiving light.

The following is a link to Solar Architecure.

2. STA Showcase

On Friday I presented a proposal that I worked on in one of my Design Studios. The Zilker Pavilion is a lightweight steel structure topped by pieces of tensile members that give shade and protection from the rain. Below are the slides that I presented:

3. PSD Flashcards

I also completed my PSD Flashcards basic training. My flashcards focus on air travel, something I miss doing in times before COVID. Here they are:

Some updates from this week

Some updates for this week

This week, I uploaded some photo IDs, got a lot of the infographic training done with Angie, and started on the new HTML/CSS training! I haven’t met with Thuy yet for the coding, but I was able to get started in CodePen temporarily. I’m doing my training site on the trilogy of Greek tragedies, The Oresteia. Here’s the aesthetic I’m going for:

Today, I spent half of my shift doing captioning for E316 again. However, for the remainder of my shift and the rest of this week, I worked mostly on the AI logo and Canvasser training.

I finalized the design for my logo (see below) and put it in a design menu. For some reason, I chose a Moscow Mule mug as one of my featured logo products, although maybe it’s just a wish for winter to come already.

Additionally, I finished my conditional drag-and-drop Canvasser game, which tests the learner’s knowledge some basic survival-level German words and phrases that they’ve (hopefully) cleaned in my Clio Canvas module. Try it out here! I also was able to add a button on my Clio module which will take the user to the game.

This Week

This week’s progress

This week, I’ve worked a lot on Canvasser, did a couple of photo ids, worked on Sexing History, and the infographic training. So far on Canvasser, I’ve made and uploaded my Photoshop assets, created objects, and assigned interactions. I’m currently working on adding conditional popups for all of my Spanish pronoun matches. It was a bit difficult to visualize a cartoon for “you” and “I” so I quite literally used the English word for the visual for “you.” Here are a few preliminary screenshots!

Canvasser progress

Canvasser progress

I’m making good progress in Canvasser! I finished up my PSD file and added the images and objects into the Canvasser site today. Wish me luck!

So today I finished up captioning for Barrish and Pinto’s E316 weekly update, and besides that I finished the PSD cutout training. Also, I continued work on both the AI logo and Canvasser trainings.

The Canvasser training is going pretty well so far. I’m enjoying the interactive aspect of it and the user-friendliness. I had a small hiccup where drag objects wouldn’t trigger the conditional true popup even when in the correct position, but Ruben was kind enough to tell me it was because I had the origin set to upper left instead of center. This meant even when in the correct position, the conditional true popup would only be activated when the upper left corner of the draggable object was in the correct position. Bridget has also been really helpful in troubleshooting.
