Pixel Art
I finished up my pixel art training today! It was nice to take a short break from course graphics and code to make something ~artsy~. Here’s my reference image and the pixel art that I came up with!

This week I did a few different things. I worked on IDs and the InDesign and began the Color Wheel training. I also met with Bridget for Cascade onboarding. I’m excited to get more familiar with Cascade and be able to work with it more.
For the color wheel training, I wasn’t really vibing with the idea of a usual wheel, so I decided to do more of a text arrangement with a kind of LED/fluorescent effect. Basically like a lot of the early LED work the artist Jenny Holzer did if she didn’t have any funding lol… I also used a portion from a popular poem called “Jessica gives me a chill pill”.

I learned more InDesign tools and concepts by making a flyer for “Conversations on Race and Gender,” based on a lecture series from the African and African Diaspora Studies Department. I got really good feedback from Megan and Poonum as my design changed in every iteration. Here are some versions:
I edited some photo ID’s for the COLA Website:
I created an Infographic including information from a National Geographic article titled, “Apples of Eden: Saving the Wild Ancestor of Modern Apples.” The article mentions the ancient woodlands of Kyrgystan and its surrounding regions and the genetic diversity of wild apples. I came up with different graphics to represent the information mentioned, here are some design iterations:
At the beginning of the week, Maddy helped me hash out what was going wrong with the Canvas callout buttons’ color. Turns out, the color profiles of PNGs and JPGs are slightly different, and exporting all other Canvas assets as PNGs seemed to do the trick.
Poonum and I are reworking the InDesign Part II training to be more explicit with expectations and design best practices.
I also got started on the pixel art training! It’s super fun so far.

Professor Verduzco asked for a custom graphic in the same style as STA 301/309 for his PowerPoint title slides.
After discussing with Thuy and Maddy, we decided to use bar graph, excel sheet, coins, calculator, files, and T-account to represent accounting.
This is what I have so far:
Not much to talk about this week as this is the only day I’m working this Thanksgiving week :^(
However, I had my eval meeting today, and here’s what I have so far for the InDesign training!
