Week 21

STA Presenter Intros

Project: STA Presenter Intros
Client: LAITS
started on: March 20, 2023
staff guidance: Maddy
description/plans: I’m essentially creating slides for the STAs who will potentially be presenting at the STA Presentation. The images will play in a video format and show the STA’s name, department, major, grade, and graduation year. The video will feature a variety of poses as well as knickknacks from their respective STA department. The goal is for these to match stylistically with the other STA Presentation assets.

after edits made 3/22/23

*made a template for Lorena to begin working on them. Not going to lie, making the template and instructions was pretty stressful because I didn’t want Lorena to be confused, especially since I wouldn’t be in the office on Friday. I think I wrote some pretty concise instructions though:)

Intro Training: Style A&B Course Graphics (contd)

Project: Style A&B Course Graphics
Client /Prof: hypothetically Robert Quigley
Completion status: started March 2, 2023
Staff guidance: Valerie
Description/plans:  Create a full course design in Style A and Style B. I’m making course graphics that I would imagine for a class I am currently taking, True Crime Podcasts with Professor Robert Quigley. I would recommend it to anyone interested in journalism or the slightest interest in true crime!
To be completed: March 21, 2023 (woohoo!)

Weeks LXVI-LXVII

Am I supposed to write these during break?

GSD Course Posters

Not much to say about the screen ads. Maddy made the template, and they turned out good.

We did get one last poster request for a forgotten course. I had fun finding the image, and scaling it up. Never underestimate posterize tool.

TGDP 6

This one was a whole lot of text. It ran well off the page when I first started pasting it in at the previous font size, so it took a lot of experimentation to get a very first draft that didn’t have the best hierarchy.

Maddy provided a better layout, split into sections, for me to standardize and fine-tune. Still snug, but working better. We are now in stage 2, various text corrections.

Vector logo recreation

Would it surprise you to learn that some very old intricate vector graphics were not backed up in Box and all we have are the exports? :’) I even combed the folders despite Maddy having already done so, and couldn’t find anything. Oh well, a good opportunity to relearn the pen tool. I’ve been tracing these in red, so they look kind of like evil sigils.

So far, 12.5 / 16 done.

Training: WordPress

Training: Word Press

Started on: Started March 21, 2023

Completion status: In progress

Completed on: March 23, 2023

Staff Guidance: Valerie

This week I will start on WordPress trainings. I used a pre-existing block template to create a food blog with 4 posts! The picture on the right is how it appear on a phone. I wasn’t a fan of this theme because it is not very customizable. I wanted change some elements with CSS and Javascript but this theme did not allow much support for that. In the near future I plan to recreate the food blog in Astra theme so that I have a bigger role in stylizing and choosing the elements of my website.

UTFC Logo Design

Project: Connexions Francophones Logo
Notes: This time around for the UTFC logo I was trying to add a textured look to the design on procreate. I’m using the Dry Ink brush on Procreate, which is what a previous STA used to create the other icons for UTFC. In my opinion, I think it contains too much detail within the texture. I could opt for a solid line with a textured stroke but I’m also worried that it would look blurry rather than textured if the logo size was altered.

UTFC Management

Notes: I’ve been mainly focusing on UTFC management and getting the hang of assigning STAs tasks for the UTFC textbook. Here’s a progress checker I made to stay organized on what’s finished and what’s not.

STA Poster

Project: Spring 2023 STA Presentation Poster
Due On: ???
Notes: This week, I’ve been focusing on finishing the STA presentation poster. Thanks to everyone’s help with photo editing I have been able to insert all of the STA photos accordingly. I’m now adding little knick-knack stickers of what’s representative of each team and polishing the overall poster!

Week 9

Week 9

This week I will continue on the Texas Beyond History (TBH) Git workflow documentation. After playing around with Adobe Dreamweaver and getting used to the Git GUI built into it, I finished the “rough draft” of the documentation. This week I will mostly focus on getting feedback and making the appropriate changes.

I have never written a Git Wiki before so to avoid making a mess of the repository Marianne created for TBH I so I forked it.

However, I also did not know that you could not merge a Git Wiki from a fork in the original repository 🙂

I decided on writing the Git Wiki across two pages
