Style A & B Studio Graphics

Project: Intro Training Style A&B Course Graphics
Notes: STA director, Valerie Tran, asked me to brush up on this training again since it’s been a while since I’ve done course graphics. The main goal was to familiarize myself with the names of the assets and the style types! I took a silly approach and used a example class from the template and replaced the professor with a minion. This time around I did Studio Graphics Style B.

STA Blog Banner Edits

Project: STA Blog Banner Update
Notes: For this task, I was asked to place Isaiah’s portrait on the Blog Banner. STAs get the opportunity to create a character that best represents them so it’s interesting to go behind the scenes to and see everyone’s avatar up close! I got to edit the Adobe Illustrator file and mess around with the placement of everyone’s avatar. It was a cool learning experience being able to edit the main site and edit the homepage to our STA blog.

Week LXXVIII

Week LXXIX

As of yesterday, my two weeks notice is formally in ;__;

I’ve accepted a contract tech job starting sometime in the next few weeks, even though I would have preferred a mellow summer and staying at LAITS til August, I guess I underestimated how fast hiring can move. I’ll be writing my goodbyes next week, but in the meantime…

French Textbook

The only thing I’ve worked on since last meeting, and perhaps my last project at LAITS.

We’re using the (now renamed) spreadsheet I made to track the sources of various images, and finally confirming all the replacement images with Yazz.

I guess I figured my very last project would be something more full-circle, but it’s another routine and inconclusive spreadsheet. Hm, I guess that makes sense in its own way.

Week 8

super eight

  JUNE 6th – 8th

I completed phase 2 of the WordPress development project. I granted administrative access to WordPress users using WP-CLI commands in Mac Terminal. I cataloged my progress and discoveries in an Airtable spreadsheet.

I had to troubleshoot in Terminal after running into an LDAP integration / database synchronization issue. I was listed as an administrator on my Terminal, but was unable to log in the WP site; however, Marianne’s desktop said I was not listed on the wp user list. Thanks to Marianne, the problem was solved by adding me to the list as an administrator using another desktop. I wanted to learn more to see if I could prevent this issue from occurring again, so I turned to GPT-4 for some wisdom.

I also completed my self-portrait for the STA Blog Post website! I used generative fill in photoshop to design a 3d avatar, and after customizing it to my liking, the end result exceeded my expectation of what Adobe Firefly was capable of.

I ran into a Photoshop issue and had to troubleshoot. A masking layer was automatically cropping the image and kept doing so even after I manually erased the mask and saved my work. I was eventually able to solve the issue after playing around with a few parameters in the mask’s editing window. Special thanks to Leilani, Adrian, and Luisa for their Photoshop guidance.

Week 7

seven pounds

MAY 30th  – JUNE 1st

I began an assignment that officially introduced me to Terminal and WP-CLI. I did web maintenance by initiating an SSH session on the LAITS server and granting administrative access to and I’s accounts for all the of the university’s websites. I cataloged my progress using Airtable. I also asked Chat GPT-4 to answer some questions I had regarding Mac’s Terminal.

UTFC Studio Testing

Project: Backdrop Color Testing
Notes: Since UTFC plans on recording its lectures this summer, I had the opportunity to go inside the recording studio to test backdrops for the lecturer. I could see the backdrops in real time and edit them to the correct display such as altering contrast and saturation inside Photoshop. So far we’re almost done with the first course for recording. This time around I went in to look over some specific backdrops of the 3 new backdrops and then two of some I found for another module.

Week LXXVIII

TGDP Documentation

Besides some minor tweaks to banner 7, my main project this week has been documenting the TGDP process for future STAs. It may not be very visually flashy, but it’s been an intense process combing through a year of moderately disorganized files and memories to standardize everything.

The end result is a higher standard than my own process has used so far, but hopefully we can stick to it going forward. I also started working on a master template, though of course the layout varies so much that it’s more of an example of how different elements CAN be formatted.

Edit: I now have the whole template done 😮
