Trip Recap and LAITS Web Support

July 30, 2021 By Cristina Villarreal Núñez

Trip Recap and LAITS Web Support

Hi there! Long time no see. Last week I didn’t get to blog because I only worked two out of the five days I usually work. I had to take some time off to go to the doctor, and to take a small trip to Mexico City. Nothing too exciting though, it was a day in/day out kind of trip because the point of it was just to go get some paperwork. But, I did get to see some cool stuff before we had to be at the airport.

Anyway, this week I’ve been working on a lot of different stuff. Some of which were the two small LAITS Web Support requests I tackled this week.

First, was a request from working on the web design for the Black Studies Department page asking me to resize their logo to a smaller scale, similar to the Liberal Arts logo since it was too big for the page and looked off. So, I did! I had to find the Liberal Arts logo they were talking about, since the reference image provided was a screenshot, and couldn’t give me info about the actual size of the logo. Once I found it, I downloaded it, looked for the dimensions, and copied specifically the height (because its width was slightly disproportional compared to the Black Studies logo), and took that info to then resize the Black Studies logo. Once I was done, I renamed the document to spare the client of confusion, and sent the final email.

Finally, a professor asked if by chance LAITS might still have the original image she submitted with her last profile page image upload request, so I was in charge of finding her image if we still had it… which we did. Woowoo! So, once I responded to the client’s request.

Weekly Update & Musings

July 30, 2021 By Ingrid Alberding

This week was pretty chill. I worked on LPL, wrapped up the Web Accessibility Training, and worked a bit on photo IDs.

To elaborate: web accessibility training was originally Megan’s, but as she’s off for the summer it was passed to me. She did a great job, I just ended up making some small edits to the introduction to change the language and the table to be more straightforward. I also included some additional accessibility-related resources and a brief summary of the history of web accessibility legislation. Web accessibility is really interesting to me, and something I’m mildly passionate about as someone living with a disability. I hope the training can be of use to current and future STAs alike as we move toward a more barrier-free world for all. Sounds cheesy but I mean it 🙂

As for photo IDs, I did some color correcting and playing around with levels for the first two of these, and simply brightened the last one a bit.

Also, it’s Friday! So please have this picture of my roommate’s cat and the love of my life, Pirate

COM 302 New Edits

July 30, 2021 By Abriella Corker

COM 302 NEW EDITS

The professor for COM 302 came back with some more edits she may want to see used for her course. Such edits are as follows:

  • For Skills lab slides, make a new slide each with a different core value icon and a icon of her head (6 total)
For the Debriefing slides, make a new slide each with a different core vale icon and a icon of her head (6 total)
Turn in a side-by-side mock up of how those look compared to the original to see how clean it looks before making all the assets.
  • For speaker slides she does an intro video about the speaker, then the guest speaker slide comes on, the speaker. She is requesting a slide to go before her introduction video.
    – Edit can be similar to the guest speaker slide except we will add an “intro” icon of some sort.
    – Another optional edit: she does her intro video as a thumbnail on top of the guest speaker slides we have now. – Andrea is asking gladys about that

I made new assets for her request such as a megaphone icon for her new “introductory slide” and then an icon of her head. The drafts are a loosely rendered and need touching up but it was made to mock up her idea quickly and present to her before we went on with making all the assets to see if she likes them first.

Here is what the Intro slide will look like and how one of the segment slides looks like with all three icons she wants on it and with how only two icons look. I put the original slides on the left for comparison to see which she likes better.

Exporting Fall 2021 “FOCUS” Graphic for UGS Courses

Exporting Fall 2021 “FOCUS” Graphics for UGS Courses

Angie made amazing graphics for the fall 2021 FOCUS UGS Courses. I don’t think she was at work this morning and things were a little slow so Valerie passed along her .PSD files for me to export in the appropriate file formats to complete this project. Not very exciting for me to show and I don’t want to post her work on my blog cause that could look misleading so here is an image of the box folders that I exported haha. (:

Dell Medical Project Update

July 29, 2021 By Poonum Mehta

Hi blog, Rebekah and Christina with Dell Medical asked me to turn one of their drawings into a graphic. Here’s the drawing:

Here’s my flowchart:

Pretty simple! Now I’m waiting to hear back from the clients about the rest of the site design.
