Spring Summer Marketing

Speedway Banner: My first task for this semester was to continue developing the Speedway banner design. My supervisor wanted to see more iterations before our next Summer Marketing meeting. I was also updated that we will be able to print multiple colors on the banner.

 

 

Although the colorful lines are a significant motif to the Summer Marketing campaign, they became a distraction from the text elements on the banner. I decided it was probably best to limit the banner to as few colors as possible (burnt orange and white). My supervisor suggested a design where the title text is enlarged, and the URL is moved to the right side with the “select $500 courses” since the left was very text heavy, resulting in unused white space on the right.

We decided the diagonal lines create a visually interesting pattern that may draw student’s eyes to the banner. The spacing between the lines and text was a bit crowded, so I reduced the font size and amount of diagonal lines.

The end of Fall Summer Marketing…

Speedway Banner: During summer class registration we may potentially hang a banner promoting the select $500 online courses across Speedway. The first three designs were heavily influenced by the Fall postcard, but after receiving feedback and feeling like this approach wasn’t producing a design I was satisfied with, I looked up examples of street banners to see what was effective in grabbing my attention. I thought about how students would be more enticed if the cost of the courses was displayed (since I as a college student know that we are all about saving money). I was also inspired by the line work on a banner I saw online and thought I could incorporate it to break up the messages/text. Once I created the lines I saw an opportunity to include the summer.utexas.edu URL so students know where to find more info if they are truly interested in the select $500 courses. Overall, I enjoyed the process of this banner and I’m pretty proud of the last iteration I made.

Tuition Guide: Removed M 427J, changed the title of ‘MUS 307 How Music Works’ to ‘MUS 307 Popular Music in Popular Culture’ ( I also removed the course flags for the time being until the professor receives approval), created a hyperlink for ‘Registrar’s Course Schedule‘, and moved the summer.utexas.edu URL to the bottom of the pdf with an orange bar ( the course curriculum and flag info were pushed up to compensate for the addition).

 

More Summer Marketing…

Tuition Guide: Changed the year, added new classes offered, removed unique #s, and moved the “last updated…” We want to possibly add “Registration begins April 8th” and “summer.utexas.edu”

Summer Marketing: Fall Postcard

Description/plans: Right now we are designing the Fall Postcard that will be mailed out to students’ permanent (home) addresses to get them to start thinking about their summer plans (aka taking an online summer course with LAITS)!

After our Summer Marketing meeting, we determined #4 as our strongest design, but we will continue workshopping #1 to potentially have another strong option.

This week De’sha shared her passion project with us! De’sha is very well-spoken and inspirational when she speaks about her passion project DEFINE. It was nice to hear someone tell us how they found a project that also aligned with their skills and passions.
