This week Asmita and I finished adding the featured images to the first four pages of blog posts and formatting them. I then looked over the website to make sure it looked consistent and watched for styling issues.

The rest of the week I spent on trainings.

Inaccessible

For an inaccessible website, I looked at the LAITS KB.

The logos at the top failed the contrast check.

The images on the page don’t have alt text.

The tabbing on the page skips over some of the menu elements.

Accessible

For an accessible website, I looked at the BBC News site.

The images on the site have alt text.

When tabbing, I was given an option for Accessibility Help and was able to go through all the menu items in order.

This week I worked on adding features images tot he blog posts, formatting the blog posts, and helping Asmita add alt text to all the images.

Last week we finished the exhibitions pages and have now moved on to adding alt text to images and formatting the blog posts.

 

Over the weekend, I participated in HackTX 2021.

I created a newspaper webapp where the user can change the font to OpenDyslexic and change the color theme from light to dark.

Asmita and I are done migrating all the exhibition pages (and all the other pages too). We fired through 33 exhibitions pages today.

This week I found that there were exhibitions missing from the past exhibitions list. The pages exist, they just weren’t linked.

The page also has the wrong information. The dates on the page are inconsistent. The ‘OPEN’ date should say June 10, 2012.

I also had problems of exhibitions in the wrong year.

This week I found many problems with the old Blanton site. And not just the missing images. There are also many broken links, outdated text, and exhibitions categorized in the wrong year / in the wrong order.

The date is wrong here. The open date should be November 03, 2007. And there are a few more like this.

To find missing images, I had to copy the caption and google for the image.

Later in the week, I found a better way. I found the archived site and used the images from there. Most of the time, I had to use those images to do a reverse image search to find a better quality image.

The links on the older exhibition pages were never updated. The website was updated once or twice before and the links weren’t updated to reflect those changes, so a lot of them are broken.

The directory structure changed from version to version of the website, but the links were never updated.
