Approved design for Chinese website

November 21, 2019 By Jalisa Broussard

I had the latest design approved by Nathalie so it is the final style of the responsive website. Now, the focus is to maintain functionality across all of the pages within the site because the content varies from the home page to the other pages. Also, to ensure responsiveness on significantly small screens.

To accommodate screen sizes in the width range of 800 to 400 pixels, I added a second media query that restyles the logo and site title. The additional media query reduces the font size, places the logo above the site title, and centers both of the items. Before adding the second media query, the style wouldn’t fit on screens at 500 pixels but now the content works well at this size.

Photo ID edits

November 21, 2019 By Jalisa Broussard

Here are a couple of photo IDs I edited for two Liberal Arts grad students. The first photo needed the yellow tones removed from the skin to have a more natural appearance. Then, I increased the contrast of the photo and deepened the dark colors and shadows to add back some of the depth that was lost from the bright lighting. In the second photo, the graduate student’s head is tilted to the right so the image needed to be realigned to the left. Also, I slightly reduced the shadow that is cast by the hair on the left side of the face.

New Writers Project Cascade Site Setup and Help Requests

Project: New Writers Project Cascade Site Setup and Help Requests

Client: Emma Train, the New Writers Project

Completion status: to be completed before Thanksgiving

Description / plans: setup the Cascade site shell and providing help based on client requests

Last week I’ve been providing help for the New Writers Project with setting up their Cascade Site. They wanted to migrate their site from WordPress and do some reorganization. This is the first time I’ve provided help on Cascade so it took me a while to figure out how to do certain things (thanks to Tim and Estella). The client was also not familiar with Cascade so they accidentally delete some folders, causing some broken links. I’ve managed to fix them, but Suloni has directed me to write up a KB on how to better instruct the client on Cascade so that not as much work is needed to restore the links.

Here’s what the site is looking like so far:  New Writers Project Site

There are a few more things I need to do, including uploading staff’s profile images, addressing the duplicated Staff’s landing page, and resizing the banner image to the standard size.

LaL Updates

November 20, 2019 By Kevin Dao

Hello,

In the last week, I was able to polish up the social media share buttons on each post, fix up the ‘Related Posts’ section at the bottom of each post, and incorporate the footer design with the help of Stacy!

Updates!

November 20, 2019 By Estella Sun

Vlabs is in its final stages, so I mainly worked on vlabs canvassers and PSDs. The vlabs home page got a temporary graphic that we pulled from the flash site and I still need to get the icon from Jac to put in the header.

I also got put back on the learning persian project. I worked on this site before leaving for the summer, but now I’m back and putting some finishing touches. We had a long talk with Stacy about the navigation and decided to move the side menus to the top with the rest of the navigation. This will also make for a better mobile responsive site. https://learning-persian.la.utexas.edu/persian-of-iran/

Finally, I finished up my psy 352 powerpoints. Those were pretty simple and quick, so not much to update there (besides initial issues with updating keynote and whatnot)!

November 13, 2019 By Kevin Dao

Hi,

I’ve made good progress on Life and Letters this past week! Here’s the demo!

Things that still need to be done:

  1. Header + footer
  2. Navigation menu
  3. Fix social media buttons (soon)
  4. Move ‘Related Posts’ below the squiggly separator
    1. Make sure it only shows 3 posts.
  5. Archive (still not sure what the client wants here)
