Lorena is Leaving! [ NOT CLICKBAIT ]

Remember last year when I posted on my blog that I wasn’t sure if I was returning as an STA and then I crawled back onto the team that Fall? Well, this time I’m officially not returning… because I graduated! After 4 years of college I’ve claimed my Radio-Television-Film degree and Digital Arts and Media certificate from UT. I’m extraordinarily grateful to the STA program and I feel so much more prepared for whatever life will throw at me. Through my 2 1/2 years as an STA I’ve grown more adept at communication, confidence, leadership, time management, organization, and of course the many programs available from Adobe. Thank you so much to the whole current Design team, including De’sha, Leilani, Thang, Adriana, Lila, Carrie, Marissa, Diya, Raaga, Shriya, and Kyra, and also to my past STAs and managers!

Why is this post so delayed in my posting it, you ask? Well, I have some good news! As of late April 2024 I’ve been one of the Summer Film Camp Directors at Austin Film Festival. It’s been exciting so far to see things coming along, and our camps start in early June so we’re fast approaching our start date! I’ve been conducting registration audits, finding food donations/sponsors, communicating with parents, hiring instructors/interns, and everything that you can think of in between.

Now as my time as a Design STA comes to a close, I once again will share my LinkedIn page (www.linkedin.com/in/lorena-chiles) and Instagram (https://www.instagram.com/lorenachiles/) for all the Lorena fans out there. Thank you guys for following my journey, bye for now!

This week I made a few last edits to the PowerPoint slides for ANT304. Below are the finals:

I was assigned to two courses with existing assets to make changes to this week:

HIS315K- Changes to the Canvas dashboard and homepage.

MUS307- Changing the EMAIL HERE button to a MODULES HERE button.

Week 5/20 – 5/24

May 21, 2024 By Marissa Devivar

E316N World Literature

Start: May 21, 2024

Staff Guidance: De’sha

Client: Professor David Kornhaber

Description: Create assets for an E316N World Literature animated intro. I based my designs off of an animatic created by Lila and sketches from De’sha.

2024 Summer Orientation Video

Start: May 14, 2024

To be Completed by: May 16, 2024

Staff Guidance: De’sha

Client: LAITS

Description: Create handwritten graphics for the Summer Orientation video.

  • Lower thirds (5 Name) – isolated signatures from the students
  • Transparent title – Handwritten
  • Headers for outro – Handwritten

I started by physically writing out the main title, subtitles, names, etc. Then, I put the images into Illustrator to image trace and edit the text before exporting it as a transparent PNG. We created two versions of each student’s name, one style being consistent with the titles/subtitles, and the others being handwritten by the Orientation Advisors themselves. I added a drop shadow to the text so the white could still pop against light backgrounds.

Last post before summer!

Wrapping up my projects

I got to work on a few pretty exciting projects these last few weeks so I’m very satisfied that I got to work on projects that I could not only complete but also enjoy working on before leaving for the semester.

World Literature Animated Intro

While I didn’t fully animate an intro for this class, I was given the task to think of an animatic for one of the world literature classes at UT.

This was fun to think of as it was simple but shows the transitions in time for world literature and theater. The book is by far the most complex asset for this animation.

Foundations of Data Science Logo and Animation

We have settled on a logo design!

The gears were a favorite for the client. Now I had to animate it.

This was a lot more tricky than I thought it would be because gears are surprisingly very complex. At least for me. Getting the timing right for the gear turning was a concern as a lot of the time the turning of one gear would offset the others and it would turn into a domino effect.

Luckily, I was suggested to slow down the turning which not only helped the pacing, but lessened the risk of the gears being offset. Here’s what I was able to finish with.

And once approved, I could add it to the intro animation template!
