More Brochure and Some UTFC

October 18, 2022 By Luisa Matzner

Value Institute Brochure

Layout Updates

These past few days, I’ve really doubled down on the edits for the brochure so that it’s ready to be sent to the client for feedback. On Friday, the client got back to me with edits, so I’ve been implementing them over the past two shifts.

Infographics

For the Class Profile page, I’m updating the design for the infographic. Here’s the progress so far.

Week 10/12 – 10/18

October 18, 2022 By Leilani Cabello

Although I had a slow week, it was productive! Here are a few of the projects I was able to work on.

UTFC Greenscreen: 5.2B The City List

Project: UTFC Greenscreen
Due On: October 21st
Notes: For this project, I was assigned with finding pictures of the following city elements in Marrakech, Morocco.

UTFC Greenscreen: 6.1B Academic Disciplines & Specializations

Project: UTFC Greenscreen
Due On: October 21st
Notes: For this project, I was assigned with finding pictures of the following disciplines in Dakar, Senegal. I’m almost done, just waiting for feedback!

Apart from focusing on assignments for the University of Texas French Course, I also helped fellow STAs by providing feedback and guidance on their STA posters. For example, I helped redesign a crest/emblem for a poster!

Planning, Search, and Reasoning Under Uncertainty Assets

Planning, Search, and Reasoning Under Uncertainty Assets

It’s coming close to the deadline for the CSMS intro, therefore, I spent majority of this week working on various drafts and iterations of the intro and getting the other assets completed.

Edits:

For the logo, I made the the light blue lines white at a 50% opacity.

Course card:

Title Card:

Intro 1:

This initial intro was extremely fast for the 4 second animation.

Intro 2:

For the animation, instead of it following all the paths, it currently only goes along the correct path and shows intersection points where the person could potentially go in a different direction.

Week 6

Week 6

Project: Exposure Therapy Lab

Started on: October 10, 2022

Completed on: October 13, 2022

Staff Guidance: Ruben, Marianne

Description: For this project, I was asked to add a column to query and display the research paper for different topics.

  1. In this project, I need to write and update different files to accomplish the objectives: creating template for the column and template for the page itself.
  2. I will add different tags and different research paper with those tags as pages.
  3. After that, I need to figure out how to display the appropriate research paper when a user clicks on a specific topic. This requires understanding of Javascript, Html and Twig files. I spent a lot of time doing this with Ruben

Challenges: In doing the project, I ran into some challenges relating to the backend and front-end

  1. For the back-end, it was hard to navigate through Twig and JS files in order to handle response when the user clicks on a specific topic. It was also difficult to build a component in Grav so that the professor can add easily the topic directly from Grav Interface.
  2. For the front-end, it was hard to adjust the different components to be responsive to different media sizes.

Project: E-Anthro Lab Project

Started on: October 11, 2022

Staff Guidance: Ruben, Marianne

Description: For this project, the first step is to flatten the website to see if I can rebuild the website without the help from CMS Drupal. So I copied and pasted the html. I downloaded all of the assets of the page including images and CSS files. When I looked back, the banner at the top doesn’t display accordingly, so I will look more into it after this.

Christmas at Winedale poster

Completion status: started on Oct 3

Client: Tricia Blakistone
Completed on: Oct 11

I officially finished this Christmas at Winedale poster project, here are the final two copies (as PDFs):

Remote Studio Poster/Logo

Completion status: started on September 20
STA team members: De’Sha and Leilani
To be completed: Oct 17

I’ve been working a lot on new drafts of the Remote Studios poster, here are some of my process shots:

On this first one, my goal was to make the STAs look like they’re coming out of a little video play button, but it was hard to tell that so I changed direction…

This one was a test of a new direction…

And then De’sha and I put our brains together and this is the newest version that we’ve settled on:

Tockify Calendar Mockup

Client /Prof: Professor Grayson
completion status: Started on Oct 13
staff guidance: Maddy
STA team members: Thang
To be completed: TBD

Started working on the faculty diversity calendar project, the goal being to have a more inclusive calendar for faculty and students to reference and be more aware of other cultural practices from their peers as well as how those things coincide with the academic schedule. This is a test mockup from Tockify that I’ve been working on. Please go to the monthly view and look at the July and December months (starting 2022) for the most cohesive experience.

Positives: Tockify does have a lot of customization aspects. Is fairly straightforward once you get the hang of it. The tags feature works really well and makes it easy to view academic or religious-specific calendars.

Negatives: I strongly dislike the pinboard and agenda views as they force repeating events through multiple years to show up on one calendar, but the monthly view is fairly nice. Is confusing at first, and there’s so many options it’s a little overwhelming.

Questions I’m still testing: Can the calendar ownership be transferred to another user?

Week 6

Audio STA Poster (10/10 – 10/13)

Staff guidance: Maddie
STA team members: De’sha & Leilani

This past week was mostly dedicated to wrapping up the Audio STA poster. I loved the constant feedback and suggestions from other staff members (De’sha and Maddie) which helped improve the poster with every new draft. This is probably the most time I have ever spent working in Adobe Photoshop & Illustrator (exciting but definitely a learning curve).

1st draft & 2nd draft

3rd & 4th draft
