Request: Create graphic elements of a grocery bag filled with groceries.Draw specific groceries raw and then draw a plate with completed meals. Once all the graphics are drawn, create a 3 second intro animation of the grocery bag, and finally create a logo version of the graphics in black and white and in color.

Process: After having meetings with Professor Steinman a plan was made on how to approach the branding for this class. First, I was to make the graphics to be used in an intro animation that would be displayed in the beginning of the student recipes that would be used in the website. The second task was to actually animate the graphics and finally create a logo representation of the graphic.

First I had to establish the chalk style to be used for this graphic.

Create all the elements of the graphic and have them arranged to get approval from professor. This process was long and involved having to do many iterations to get the overall feel just right.

 

 

Finally:

After getting confirmation from Professor Steinman, I was given the OK to proceed with the animation. After I created the base animation I passed it along to the audio team where Jacob Weiss added in the sound effects and passed it on to video team where Griffin Smith finalized the necessary changes.

The Result:

 

After the animation was completed I was ask to create a logo version of the graphic. This means something cleaner that when scaled to different sizes would still be recognizable. I was asked to create a black and white version and a colored version. I created 4 drafts for Professor Steinman to choose from.

 

Request: Create 2 images for the What Jane Saw website. 1) Take the green screen images of the staff who worked on What Jane Saw  and place them inside the What Jane Saw Exhibit. Add some stylization to the image. Image to be featured in the New York Times.

2) Create a line up of all the What Jane Saw staff inside one of the museum rooms with ipads over their faces.

Process:

1) First was to retrieve the green screen images of the staff that were taken of them observing an imaginary object.

2) Next, was to key out the green screen and mask out their feet so I could place them into the exhibit.

3)Then I stylized it using a technique taught to me by Suloni. This stylization required giving the image a tint and adding noise., then adding a color and texture over the clothing to make it stand out. Next, adding small details to highlight features like the hair or clothes and then highlighting figures with a white stroke. Lastly, was to adjust the color of both the images of the staff and of the exhibit. I played with perspective and made the figures smaller or larger according to their location in the image. Adding shadows was  the finishing touch so that the room looked to exist in a 3d space

For the Second image, a similar process was done as far as retrieving the green screen image and cutting everyone out and placing them into a room. This image though didn’t require the stylization but rather lining up everyone who worked on the project together.

 

What Jane Saw  is the product of English Professor Janine Barchas’s research into the life and times of British Novelist Jane Austen.

Professor Barchas wanted all of us to be able to see a historically accurate versions of  important art exhibitions hung in a London art gallery, that Jane Austen saw and wrote about. The gallery no longer exists, and the paintings will probably never be curated for one space ever again. Thanks to STAs having had the privilege of working with Professor Barchas, we all have a taste of What Jane Saw in both the 1796 and 1813 art exhibitions. After the gallery art was done the project was then passed down to the coding team.

WJS Promotional Materials

 

I was brought onto this project to create two different promotional materials for this website. One of which would even be featured in he New York Times. the first image I was asked to create was to place the team of artist and web designers into one of the rooms in the gallery. This is that result.

 

The second image  was a bit similar with having everyone placed in a room but instead of having everyone facing the 4th wall each person was to look as if they were observing some part of the gallery. It was also important to stylize the look so that it looked like a painting itself.

Process (In-depth):

1)After photographer, Marsha Miller, took pictures of everyone in front of the green screen , I took the photos and cut each person out of the studio and placed them into the gallery. Each person had been instructed to pretend that they were looking at something in the gallery and I strategically placed each person where I thought they made more sense to be placed.I played with perspective and made the figures smaller or larger according to their location in the image.

As an STA I get to learn more with each new project I take on. Not only do I get the experience of working with different people but I also get the experience of learning new skills and techniques that I value as an artist. Photoshop is a program I have been using since middle school but there are things still many things I discover with using it and now this technique that Suloni taught me for this project has become a valuable asset that I have taken with me in my graphic projects outside of being an STA.

Texas Politics Facebook Page Icons

The following images are used as image placeholders for the Texas Politics Facebook page. Previously, when they uploaded an article from their website, in image from the link is used as a placeholder above the article. The problem is some pages such as the internships and the some blog articles and polling pages don’t have images and instead will show a blank box above the content. These images will act as placeholders for the pages that don’t have image content.
