Online Course Graphics Training

January 22, 2021 By Athena Zeng

Online Course Graphics Training

Hello! This week, I have been working on a few things:

  1. The presentation Poonum, Angie, Miguel, and I will be doing on our group project
  2. A little bit of the AI Logo training
  3. The online course graphics training

For the logo, this was the initial thought process. I wanted to do a bunny with raised eyebrows because I resonate with bunnies and raised eyebrows (both the song and the action). However I think those details could get lost, so I think I will go with the bunny silhouette with hands covering its eyes / hands covering face in frustration

For the online course graphics training, I am almost done with the style A set. I will later need to make sure they’re in the correct places on Box, but this training is relatively straight forward. This is not a real course, but Donnie Darko is great! Here are the sample PowerPoint slides.

Hope everyone had a great first week back at school! I am still watching Naruto! It’s bringing me pain.

Texas Politics Progress

Texas Politics Progress

I’m making a lot of — you guessed it — progress with the graphics for the TXP’s speaker series graphic suite! The Texas Politics Project’s goal is to engage and educate regular Texans in state politics, beyond the occasional scandal in the press. They hold an annual Speaker Series to facilitate this. For TXP, I used colors scraped from their site and logo and fonts that were academic and professional, yet crisp. If you’re wondering, the cowboy in the background isn’t anyone in particular, just a Texas Ranger statue.

A Busy First Week

January 22, 2021 By Ingrid Alberding

Hello! Classes started this week, and it’s been a busy one. Already I am swamped with readings and preparing papers and presentations. I also worked on a variety of different assignments this week as an STA. I continued work on HIS 315K, and today we almost finished our presentations. I also started prepping a presentation for next Monday’s meeting.

I also started with Suloni’s COLA help request, where apparently users cannot view Box files on incognito mode on Chrome, and we need to update the help guides and help bots accordingly. I’ve started a Google doc to add to existing documentation, complete with updated screenshots and descriptions.

Finally, I updated the STA blog to only display current STAs. Have a good weekend!

Study Tips video and ISPRII logo

Study Tips Video is done!

After some intense couple of weeks, I am very satisfied with what my team accomplished with the Study Tips video. All animated objects were created as independent, unique assets in Photoshop files that were then imported into After Effects. I was mostly involved in the scenes that show a laptop, a calendar, a whiteboard, and some pamphlets. Below are some clips of these scenes:

Here are also some clips of the After Effects interface, while working on the video editing:

ISPRII Logo Update

I’ve also been working on some more versions of the logo and wordmark for ISPRII, using two different fonts and working with the hierarchy of the phrases of the name of the organization to create a cohesive look.

Learning Google’s Material Design

Learning Google’s Material Design

Since I have some downtime this week, I’ve asked Maddy and Valerie to learn Google’s Material Design CSS Framework. Overall, it’s pretty similar to Bootstrap, but I like how the overall look and feel is very different. Another thing that I really like is how they explain design principles, the knowledge of which I lack. Here are some screenshots from the blank HTML page I made and put random components in.

Catching Up and A Winter Break Conclusion

Catching Up and A Winter Break Conclusion

Hello 🙂 Again, it has been a while, but I’m happy to say that classes started yesterday- I’m excited to be back in Austin. There aren’t many projects that I can update on, as I didn’t leave much unfinished before the break. I have however gotten back to my PSD painting training assignment, which I had put to the side over winter break to prioritize the Study Tips and Wellness project.

Fig Painting in Photoshop

And of course, Study and Wellness! Now that winter break is over, this project has been concluded and I’m so happy with what I was able to accomplish with the dream team (of Athena, Miguel, and Poonum). My last post here was the still assets of the lofi hookem scene. But now even better, here are the animated videos 🙂

sadly the files are too large to upload, so instead here are images that link to the mp4 files

Reflections

It’s a new year which means new projects in my future. Reflecting back on 2020, I’ve grown so much, especially in my experience in design. And I’m so grateful for the community I have met through LAITS and the STA program. My goals for the year are to update more so I have more to look back on, and to get out of my comfort zone. And this winter break project was a great headstart in that. Working in Photoshop for illustration was familiar and let me get into detailed work with ease. However, taking to animation on After Effects was a new, fresh and challenging experience. I’m so happy 🙂
