STA Blog

Week 2

September 7, 2021 By Rahul Palla

Project: COLA Website Refresher
Client /Prof: N/A (College of Liberal Arts)
Completion Status: Started August 25, 2021
Staff guidance: Michelle Vanhoose, Chris Rankin
STA team members: Ingrid, Adrian
description/plans: Get familiar with Pages and learn how to use it through trainings before ultimately using it for the COLA Website.
To be completed: TBD (long-term)

Last week I mostly worked on the COLA Web Refresher, especially the personal site in Pages. I had originally made 3 sites, one about me, one about a dinosaurs (personal interest), and then an in depth page on the Tyrannosaurus Rex. Unfortunately, there was a bug in Pages that I happened to stumble upon, which was with the undo function, in which all 3 sites were replaced. Due to this, I had to restart all the progress I made, but at least I found a bug! I also met with Jake about the Epic Similes project, which was really interesting to learn about. Below are pictures of the two sites I was able to finish.

Stinger – Animation Refresh Title

September 7, 2021 By De'sha Bass-McClellan

Stinger – Animation Refresh Title

I began working on different draft options for the title on the Stinger Refresh project. Since the icons will have the most animation, we want the title to have a small, subtle animation added to it. I decided the choose between two options so far, a typing animation and a fade in animation.

I believe they both bring their own style to the animation, but I don’t want to take away from the main animation with too much movement. With that being said, I believe I am drawn more to the second option. Only because it is simpler and doesn’t take away from the main animation and with the other animations that will be created.

Figma for Latinxpop Lab

See the updating FIGMA embed in my last blog post; recent edits have included:

> Banner and subheader redesign
> Gridding (Why grids matter in web design)
> Youtube section on the homepage
> Repository entry block (social media and external link formatting)
> Navigation bar and footer edits

I also watched the new Marvel movie “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings” this weekend. Hearing my native language on the big screen made me so happy. Chinese representation in media <3 The soundtrack was also outstanding; I encourage everyone to take a listen (88Rising doesn’t miss).

Blog Post Week 2

September 7, 2021 By Asmita Karmakar

Hi everyone!

For my second week I spent most of my time working on the Blanton Website Migration project.

Project: Blanton Website Migration
Client /Prof: Blanton Museum
completion status: started work on August 23 and still continuing
staff guidance: Ruben Garza
STA team members: Marianne, Angie
description/plans: Start working through more pages and seek guidance on creating more complicated page layouts that don’t use the typical 30/70 section divide.

To be completed: long-term project, date not known but is a priority

The Austin In Depth section took me a bit of time since it was my first time creating lots of new pages to add to the left-side navigation bar. Ruben provided me with a few example pages to help me get started.

The Past exhibition page contains all of Blanton museum’s past exhibitions back till the 2000s so this page is taking me a long time. I am creating new pages for each gallery and linking it to the main page. I am working on this into the following week.

I also completed a training on the basics of WordPress and made this little post. I played around with some of the media options and inserted this cute gif of a corgi waving.

Stinger – Animation Refresh Survey

September 7, 2021 By De'sha Bass-McClellan

Stinger – Animation Refresh Survey

Last week I mainly focused on the survey animation for the Stinger Refresh project. For this animation, I wanted to create something that mimicked the movement of bars if the students were actually taking a survey.

For the first draft, I did a lot more motion in the bars and the animation was slightly longer.

With some editing tips, I drafted a second animation that is shorter in length. I also made the
bars move more consistently.

Blanton Exhibitions

September 5, 2021 By Marianne Lê

This past week, I continued to work on the Blanton museum website. I worked on many exhibition pages.

Sometime while working on the pages, I realized that some of the pages my have links to other pages on the site, and not on the menu, that were yet to be created.

So I went back through all of the pages I worked on checked all the links.

Later, when I was creating a gallery, I found that on the old website, some of the images were missing.

But, luckily, the page was save on the Wayback Machine in January, when the images were still around.
