Career Services Graphic Refresh

The Liberal Arts Career Services center wanted to update their Graduate student pages with some graphics. Previously the pages were only text, so I broke it up by converting a paragraph into bullet points each with an icon.

I repeated the icons and added a simple banner on the Welcome page. I designed the icons myself in Illustrator. I used rounded corners and “shiny” marks to make them feel modern and professional.

WPmanager progress

April 9, 2020 By Ishan Kamat

WPmanager is in a final state right now, and I think that it has a lot (potentially all) of the features necessary for WP administration across the site network. It can update themes, plugins, and WP core; it can catalog sites by plugin; it can keep track of when sites were updated; and more. I look forward to using the tool for WP administration in the future.

Gov. Icon

Creating Icons

Bridget has been working on creating web content for the Liberal Arts Career Services. She assigned out icons to go into one of her designs. The first black and white images are the icons I made using both linework and then solid shapes.

We ended up going with the look of the solid filled-in shapes for the icons. I placed it within her design and started adjusting from there. I played around with the thickness and spacing between the column as well as raising the flag and filling it in to make it more visible in the small circle.

KB Edits

KB Editing: Now With Banners!

Among all the projects that we have been doing during the break, one that I updated on was edits to instructions in the knowledge base. We are now adding banners to the instructional guides that are specific to the topic they are going over each custom in design by the STA who makes updates to the web page. I worked on both the Basic Training for Film and Slide Scanning as well as Project Estimation for Scanning. Below are the graphics that I made. Project Estimation has an extra graphic as that one did not have many instructional screenshots needed.

The images and text for the updated KBs are now being saved into the Volume for editing purpose. Some trainings also require templates that need downloading and it is a good communal place to download such items for STAs. My project estimation scanning kb still needs an excel sheet template added to it. Here are how the images looked placed into the instructions.

Practice on Tickets

Practice Responding to Tickets

We have been practicing responding to help requests from professors as tech support needs more hands helping to assist professors in setting up their online classes before the semester starts back up. This weekend Maddy and I are going to be tasked with transferring the requests from Slack to Trello. Depending on how many requests there are we may also start assisting with email responding. We looked at completed questions and tried to answer them ourselves in a basecamp practice and then compare it to what the actual email responses were. Suloni is shown giving me feedback in one of the screenshots below. Today I worked on three of them.

Zoom Guide

Zoom Documentation

The design STAs and I have been working on compiling all the information that the other STAs have been sharing as they go through all the features of Zoom. We organized the information and formatted information for consistency and readability. The hope is that this document is a one-stop for everything LAITS needs to learn about zoom.  Here are some screenshots of the document we put together.
