More stuff

February 11, 2019 By Estella Sun

Mainly been working on vlabs! Not much has changed since last week, but I have made quite of a bit of progress.

Structure of a cell
Reactions to anti-B
UV radiation and skin color

Additionally, Stacy gave me feedback on my site, so I’ll be editing it again before I send it back.

I’ve also trained Clarissa in Canvasser, and plan on doing the same for Olivia and Sanika soon.

Vlabs!

We finished the Migration phase for eanthro vlabs! Now, we are going to be creating all the assets for the labs since the original flash interactives are not reusable and won’t match Emily’s new UI design for the site.

As for actually making the assets themselves, I enjoy the process! Emily gave really great clear instructions on how she wants them to look, so it’s been easy to just tackle one after the other.

Most of the ones I’ve done so far have been relatively simple, but I did run into a Quiz interactive that requires canvasser to know what the user has inputed, so it can spit out the right response. As for that, we’ll be needing Ruben’s help.

Theater of Philosophy

I was also recruited onto a new WordPress project! Basically, Stacy got a client that wants a wiki styled site that compiles essays and bibliographies about various philosophers and their research on theater.

This will be my first official project designing the UI/UX for a web site, so I’m SUPER excited! For my first step, Stacy has told me to just build a very general, bare-bones UI that focuses on the site functionality (wireframing!).

Other projects

In other news, I was tasked with creating a new cascade unit site for Texas Initiative for Advanced Study. Now that Andre is gone, we’ve been needing to figure out things on our own using the STA knowledge base.

I also helped out a bit with migrating the cascade documentation onto the actual cascade site.

RGT

I’m still working on RGT. I talked with Stacy before Thanksgiving, and he said that there will be some changes with the layout. I plan on talking with him soon to figure out the details.

Personally, I feel like that I’ve been in sort of a rut in learning Javascript and CSS right now. The largest issues I have are with website layout. BUT I’m slowly learning, so hopefully I’ll improve over time and be able to fix these issues faster.

You can see that the sidebar looks a little better now, and that Stacy added a map panel as well. The goal is to make the website seem like you’re physically at the site, and you’re just “pulling up” a map or the info panel. This is also where Stacy mentioned the layout changes will come into play. He wants some info to sort of “pop in” when you click on things, which is different from the slide-ins that I’ve been working on.

Slowly but surely, we’re making progress!

Racial Geography

Still working on Racial Geography Tour! This past week I added some media queries, which basically allow me to change how the website looks based on how big the window is (helpful for making web mobile accessible for example). I made it so that at when the window gets to be to small, the info panel stretches to fit the entire page (covering the video). I also made it so that when the window shrinks causing the heading to overflow off the header, the address fades away.

Then I continued working on the accordions a bit more. I animated the arrow icons, so that when the text drops down, it turns points downward instead of left. I ran into an issue where the end of the Transcript wasn’t showing up/being covered by the bottom of the window, so I’ve asked Stacy for some help.

Finally, I changed up the font more to match Jac’s mockup, since the address and section text didn’t look quite right.

Canvasser

Nick trained me in using Canvasser! We’ll be using canvasser to make interactives for eanthro vlabs. It’s been quite the process since it seems like we are going to be remaking all the assets for all the interactives, AND creating them in canvasser. Luckily, I worked with canvasser a little with Rodrigo (previous computer support proj), so I was familiar with the canvasser layout. Nick was a great teacher, and I picked it up pretty quickly.

Here’s the sample interactive we all created for our training (It looks soooo much better with Emily’s design applied to it!):

Cascade

This morning, I was assigned some Cascade updates for the computer support page. I’m going to be adding a separate page for additional info/contact us info and putting in some new links.

This is what the draft site looks like right now (Rodrigo made it!):

Russian

One more photoshop addition! This time I made the hanging pots and pans in the kitchen:

Racial Geography

Still working on Racial Geography. I figured out how to make the header shrink smoothly when you scroll and worked on making the transcript and bibliography dropdowns. Also, the dashicons show up now (Thanks to Stacy’s help)!

Now I’m trying to focus on making sure the positioning and text and everything don’t get super funky when the window is resized.

Russian

I made some iron angles and step stool angles for the bathroom set. Pretty quick and simple:

NWAV

Made the mug and t-shirt designs for NWAV 49! Dr. Hinrichs wasn’t sure on what company he would be using, so I just used Custom Ink and Zazzle to create these mockups for him.

I especially like the look of the mug:

T-shirt color variations; he seemed to like the navy one the most:

Psych CE

I made the title lecture slide and website mockup with my logo:

Racial Geography

Made a little more progress on Racial Geography. I added some subtle shadows, readjusted the heading text, and justified the info text (transcript and bib). I am currently working on trying to make the sections into dropdowns (the weird squares are supposed to be dashicons, but they’re acting a bit weird).
