Page mockup with interactive for the LRC site

I just got a new assignment to create a mockup of a page for the Linguistics Research Center. They are submitting a grant proposal, so this mockup will be a way to showcase what one of there pages would look like with an interactive on it (the interactive is yet to be created).

So right now I’m working the static mockup to show the client for approval. I’m designing the interactive in Photoshop, then adding it to a screenshot of an LRC page to show what it will look like in context when you click on the interactive.

This is the image I was given to use for the interactive, they are Mayan hieroglyphics. They are divided into 8 “blocks,” and the blocks are subdivided into what are called “glyphs.” Each glyph represents a sound or a word, and so the block can represent a sentence or multiple sentences (I believe, I’m not a linguistic expert…)

And this is the static mockup that I sent to the client with 2 color options (purple and green). I’m waiting to hear back about the final text to use, but this is roughly what it will look like. When I get approval on the basic design of the interactive I will start working on building it in Canvasser so it can be added to their site. But the first priority is to get the mockup finished to meet their deadline.

 

Wrapping Up LACS

All 12 LACS career guides are now complete! I handed off the final files to the client who will be publishing them on her site.

This was my first time leading a project, which has been a learning experience for me. It ended up going more smoothly than I expected, which was nice.

LACS Progress

I’m currently working on wrapping up LACS in between RSS, which is the highest priority right now. All of the infographics I assigned are marked as done and the files are uploaded to Box, so I’m working on going through all of them to fix a few inconsistencies, making sure all the icons are same size, and updating the color palette.

I’m really happy with how they’re looking, and I’m excited to see the final versions up on the site. Once I’m done going through these, I’ll share them with the client to see if she’s also happy, or if there are any last changes she wants me to make.

More RSS Images

 

RSS Image Annotations

I don’t have a lot to add for this week, I’ve just been working on updates to the Knowledge Base website (see previous blog post) plus a new project to annotate images for the Remote Studio System (RSS) site. The images are instructional and provide information about lighting, audio, video equipment and training. Right now all the images have captions, and our job is to transfer the caption text to the image as annotations.

LACS Progress

We’re making good progress on the LACS career guides–we’re about 80% done with the drafts, and only a handful of icons still need to be created (out of the 60+ we started with!). I’m really happy with how these are turning out. At the end, I’ll do a final pass through all of them to fix any inconsistencies and make any final changes. One thing that still needs to be changed is the final color scheme, since not all of the infographics will be blue. Amy has updated the career list, so now we know the order of the infographics and will be able to rotate the colors evenly through (i.e. to keep from having the same color back to back). And all the final PSDs are accessible, so it will be easy to go through them all one last time.

 

 

 

Other things I’ve been working on: the Knowledge Base table of contents needs to be updated to be more user-friendly and better organized, so I’ve been working on mockups of what it could look like. The main thing that needs to be fixed is we want to have the trainings separate from the general resources, since right now they’re jumbled together and hard to find. The mockups I’m working on have a separate table of contents for resources and trainings, which I think makes a lot of sense and will be very helpful for newly hired STAs to be able to track their progress through the trainings. It also looks a lot better aesthetically.

Spring Showcase Video

 

This is my video for the spring STA showcase. I put this together pretty quickly, but I think it came out alright.

 

Creating the 2020-2021 Blog Banner

 

I’ve also been working on creating a new blog banner for the 2020-2021 school year, which has been really fun to draw. The theme is “the garden of your imagination,” and all the STAs submitted their caricatures plus an imaginary creature or plant. I tried to make it a little bit hazy and dreamlike, because that’s what I pictured when I heard the theme. The one problem was that Thuy’s caricature didn’t have a full body, so Suloni suggested I draw a magical mirror to put her reflection in.
