Hebrew Flash Conversion Update

November 13, 2019 By Jake Engelberg

Hebrew Flash Conversion Update

I’ve now got access to a list of extracted flash interactives for the Hebrew site. This removes and human error that would come from manually scraping the page. It turns out there are around 100 flash interactives. However, most of these are multi-paged, and that isn’t something that Canvasser can natively handle (pages must be stacked manually by the user). It’s with this in mind and the complexness/repetitiveness of certain interactives that I’ve decided to take a deep look at all interactives and decide how they should be created.

I’m keeping a few things in mind:

  • Which creation tool the interactive’s format most closely matches (The two other creation methods are Quia flashcards and Quia multiple choice)
    • If it is to be created in Quia, is there a loss of cohesion, style, or formatting?
  • Difficulty to create in Canvasser
  • Potential to split an interactive between parts

It ends up being that many modules could be created in Quia (thanks to talks with Kevin), and it stands to be said whether using these tools instead will hinder the original goal of the interactive. This is why Canvasser is the best option disregarding creation, because it can replicate the interactive almost completely. However, they can become fairly difficult to create as each page complicates and the number of pages increases.

PSY Powerpoint

PSY POWERPOINTS

Thuy assigned me 5 lecture powerpoint to convert from keynote and I finished them all and now just waiting for her review. I have a feeling more will probably be given to me. I didn’t include any pictures of the actual slides because it might not be content the professor wants shared. So here is a picture of them on my desktop and the excel spreadsheet I filled out.

Cascade new email template

November 13, 2019 By Abriella Corker

CASCADE NEW EMAIL TEMPLATE

I am going to start helping out with more cascade requests in the office now. Here is one of the first ones I was given that Suloni was able to make a basecamp for, but for the most part I might just have to keep up with it via email. The lock-up needed to be inserted into the site so Suloni, Valerie, and I went in and looked up where to insert into the site as practice while discussing the new roles I am going to have. It took till over night to publish on the site, but in the mean time I wrote up a template email on what other services for canvas we offer so departments can make their pages more full with content. On the left is my simplified original template based off of what I knew and then Suloni added her edits and more information to include in the image on the right. Now it is just up to Valerie to let me know what images I should use for the email and it will be sent off.

New Designs for the Gateway to Chinese Website

November 13, 2019 By Jalisa Broussard

I’ve been in contact with the creator of this website, Nathalie, to get feedback on different designs for the responsive site.

The first design needed transparency in the header to make the background more visible.

The second design follows the style of the original design and has more transparency but the width of the content covers most of the background.

The third, and most recent design, has transparency in the header and I’ve added more padding to the content to make the background visible around the sides.

V-Labs

TURNING OUT CONTENT

We discovered that a lot of section 2 was just not made and overlooked. Maddy was quick to assign out a bunch of things to the STAs. She also gave me quick labels to make for GRAV to finalize the completion of other labs. Here is all the stuff I did half of last week and today. A lot of it looks choppy for copyright protection but it is proof of work! Glad I am able to help get things moving.

Gateway to Chinese logo

November 7, 2019 By Jalisa Broussard

The original logo contains a long line that breaks when the screen size is reduced. I took a screenshot of the logo, opened it in Photoshop, and cropped the image into a circle with a transparent background. The edited logo has to be uploaded to the server and placed inside the same folder as the original logo for these changes to take effect. Before I replace the image, I need to test how this change would look so I’m trying the “object-fit” and “object-position” properties to create the look of the edited logo.
