STAs: Student Technology Assistants
Who We Are
LAITS: IT and Facilities Director, Joe TenBarge initiated the Student Technology Assistant program in 2004. STAs are UT students who work on a variety of projects in collaboration with UT faculty and LAITS staff members. STAs assist College of Liberal Arts faculty members and administrative staff with print and web design. From building presentations, to creating audio/visual works, and producing online classes in the LAITS film studios, STAs are instrumental in helping COLA faculty realize their vision for multimedia projects that enhance their teaching and the students learning experience. By the end of their student careers, STAs have portfolios which demonstrate their accrued technical and design skills.
Prospective STAs:
Creative and technically inclined students are appointed as STAs for one year, with the possibility of being rehired as long as they study at the university. Applicants for the program are hired before both long semesters. Interested students may look for postings on Hire-A-Longhorn when positions are available. Positions will have Student Technology Assistant (illustrator or web designer) in the title of the job post.

More COLA Photo IDs and Russian Illustration Edit!
I did four more COLA Photo IDs today! I’m trying to get a little faster at doing this (I think this is a new record lol).

Wow look at all these IDs!
I’m also wrapping up on coloring the “shadow people” for the U11-7 Russian Illustration edit!

Coloring in clothes! I think I’ll work on the line art a bit to make certain details more distinguishable.
I’ll be able to work on more next shift!
Week of 10/1
Week of 10/1
No new exciting graphics this week, since I mostly just worked on Anthro V Labs and Cascade re-documentation edits. Here’s the info again for the V Labs project:
project: Updating Anthropology Virtual Labs
completion status: Started September 2018
staff guidance: Estella Sun
STA team members: Bridget, Valerie, Emily, Chloe, Duo
description/plans: Transfer all the text and images from the old Flash website to a new site that can be accessed by future students.
To be completed: ASAP
I finally finished my portion (Lab #6). A lot of one section ended up being videos so I didn’t have to do much for them.
There was this one page that had about 200 definition terms that I had to re-format. I think I straight up entered the void while I was working on them; it was so monotonous.

Next, I also worked on Cascade re-documentation. My task was to make edits to the instructions draft using Andre’s edits.
project: Cascade Documentation
completion status: Started Oct 1 (for me at least)
staff guidance: Estella Sun
STA team members: Bridget, Chloe
description/plans: Making edits for Cascade re-documentation draft referencing Andre’s edits PDF
To be completed: Oct 12
Thanks for Estella organizing both of these projects!
IDs and Russian illustration edit
I edited a COLA photo ID today. I haven’t done this in a while! Here’s the progress photo. I’ve already submitted it and updated the client’s page.

First COLA Photo ID edit in a long time!
I kinda missed doing these!
I also got started on the edit for the Russian illustration that Kathy assigned to me. I haven’t been able to finish it because of personal matters, but I can get to it now!

Organized the background “shadow people” in the background with a folder. I will color them in next shift 🙂
That’s all for today!
