COLA Web Refresh

April 8, 2022 By Ingrid Alberding

COLA Web Refresh has continued to be my primary focus. I, Adrian, Anya, Lorena, Chris, Michelle, and a handful of other people have been working hard to clean up sites auto-migrated to Pages and hand them off to the client. It’s a pretty enormous task, so I undertook additional hours for the remainder of my time here in order to help as best as I can. I finished cleaning up the site for Government yesterday, so pending any feedback or requested changes from Chris, Michelle will soon send it off to Sarah for review.

Next up is Latino Studies — a constellation of sites similar to the structure of Black Studies, with the trifecta of a department, center, and institute under its umbrella. I’ve finished cleaning up the “umbrella” site of Latino Studies, as well as the Latino Research Institute (LRI) sites, but that leaves MALS and CMAS.

French Course

This week I had time to also work on some French Course related tasks along with the Commencement Ceremony. I did two studio backdrop sets, Adrain completed another 2 sets this week as well. I also created a powerpoint for them using french artist only per their request and re-editied image sources for another powerpoint to be more french realted. Sheryl is working on the other presentation for this week, I’ve been helping her source material for it.

Week 3: Training Overview.

April 8, 2022 By Hoa Truong

This has been my third week working as a STA. It has been a really exciting journey for me because I have learned new things everyday.

For this week, I have been working on the Grav assignments, particularly are creating my own Grav site and practicing making my Grav page become visible to other users.

Here are the screenshots of my first Grav site including the “Home Screen” and “About

This assignment helped me learn a lot of new things such as how to add the content to the site, add the logo to the banner,…

After finishing creating my first Grav site, I started working on “Write Documentation via Admin Help Docs”.

I practiced cloning the admin-helpdocs repo to my laptop and then moved it to the grav-admin folder.

After that, I finished the assignment by creating the Help Docs page and make it visible to my sub Grav account.

Finally, when I log in to my sub account, I am able to see the Help Docs page shared by my main account.

Overall, I am very excited for what I have learned and things I will learn in the future 🙂 .

This week, after wrapping up the Dana Center: Carnegie project, I’ve spent most of my time working on various COLA web refresh tasks.

Work in the production server has begun, and it’s a time crunch to get everything (that has already been auto migrated) cleaned up and redesigned in time.

I focused on Black Studies and affiliated sites (e.g. IUPRA, Warfield Center, RIM, AADS). Below is a screenshot with an example of my results.

I plan on undertaking more hours in order to help speed up work on this project

Week 2: Web Dev Basics

April 1, 2022 By Hoa Truong

For my second week, I have been learning and practicing new skills for Web Dev Basics assignments.

Github is one of my favorite tool. It is the tool to share your coding project and for developers to work on their projects.

I have uploading my first repository to share some information about myself and also practice using Github to upload my future coding projects.

I have also learnt so many new things about the Website such as Clients and Servers, DNS, and Component Files,…

To reflect my understanding for Website, I made a powerpoint to summary everything I learnt.

After that, Inspect was the next tool that I learnt and applied. I could see the component files of a website using Inspect and know how to do changes on the website.

Last but not least, I really enjoy learning and practicing Web Accessibility Standards assignment. It provides a lot of valuable information about how we should design our website,  the format of the information we want to share on our website.

I had the opportunity to work on analyzing different infographics and what we should do to improve the site’s accessibility. With the feedback from Ingrid, I have learnt a lot about the need of using Tab key to navigate where the users are on the website.

Overall, I have learnt a lot of valuable skills and hopefully I can apply them to produce the best products for the LAITS team. 🙂

Lingco Banner Updates

We are still in the process of deciding the direction we want to take these banners in. Yazz and Pat want to see a version where Tex and Tammy are in the primary banners and one where they are not. So far here are how the finalized options are looking. Once we get a solid decision on things we can start assigning these out to STAs to move things along.
