This is a spooky update, sonnn

October 22, 2018 By Valerie Tran

Woo HOOOO! It’s a ~spooky~ UPDATE!

Image result for skeleton dancing gif

I’m still working on the Russian Illustration and having some trouble with scaling things to the right perspective, so most of my time has been geared towards perfecting this darn scale for the market. I might have to come in on the weekend to get this done before November arrives. Kathy says it looks good so far, and that’s been very encouraging! Today I added more buckets (that will later hold mushrooms) and I added that pesky scale. I think my line art needs to be clean up even further because some of the intersecting lines areΒ MESSY.

Look at these cuties!

Tate also has assigned me a new animating assignment. For this assignment, I was tasked to make some clutter for a bathroom scene. I added some shampoo bottles to the corner of the tub. I labeled each layer I worked on by stating the object that was on it, the hex code of the color being used, the brush type, and the brush size.

Look at those little itty bitty bottles! That conditioner will still run out faster than the shampoo tho.

That’s all the updates I have for today!

Remote Assignment & Illustration

October 16, 2018 By Valerie Tran

I finished the assignment Tate gave me! Here it is:

Wow look at dem angles!

It was difficult doing the buttons for the 3/4 perspective of the remote, but I think I got kinda close. Adobe Animate certainly has a learning curve and I understand it better than I did when I first started this assignment. I’m super grateful to Tate for helping me out with this.

I also worked a bit more on the Russian Illustration. The perspectives in the previous draft were a bit messy and wonky, so I went ahead and added a solid color to clearly distinguish the objects and redid some of the lines.

It’s easier to look at the background now!

COLA IDs

October 15, 2018 By Valerie Tran

Today, I had trouble accessing my work today…twice. The first time was because I wasn’t able to open up Photoshop. The second mishap was due to the computer’s inability to actually log in. So I lost some time πŸ™ BUT! I got quite a bit done regardless. Here are some COLA photo IDs that I worked on!

COLA IDs!!!

I also got a chance to talk to Tate about how to fix up the buttons on the remote! Here’s the result of that πŸ™‚

Fixed the buttons a bit!

That’s all that I’ve done this shift!

more illustration & adobe animate

October 11, 2018 By Valerie Tran

Today I have a short shift, so I worked on my Russian illustration assignment. I added more to the structure, but I think I need to give the composition more thought before diving in. I need a better idea of how the market stands will look before I continue making lines. So I looked up more pictures of Russian open air markets and then continued on with the drawing.

More progress!

I also worked on some more Adobe Animate and made this:

Here’s the side view of the remote!

That’s all I did for this very brief shift. There will be more tomorrow!

learning how to use flash animate and starting a russian illustration!

October 10, 2018 By Valerie Tran

So today, I started to dip my toes into Adobe Animate and Tate showed me and Emily the ropes. My assignment was to make a TV remote. I had a hard time figuring it out, but the instructions/tutorial that Tate provided for me helped immensely. I’m a little slow because I’m still learning how the tools and program work, but I think I’ll get the hang of it soon. Here’s what I have so far!

Wow! A remote! Actually took way longer than it should’ve, haha.

It was really hard for me to navigate the site since I’ve only had very, very brief encounters with it. I learned how to make a symbol and how to work within it. I have a limited knowledge on what vectors are, so I’m trying to make everything in limited strokes as to not create so many artifacts/bits and pieces/stray marks. But I did it! I’ll try to be faster with the next assignment Tate gives me.

I also got started on my line art for the Russian Illustration that Kathy assigned to me. I got the green-light to move forward from sketch to line art. Suloni and Kathy both said they liked it, but to make them look at other objects to make it look more natural rather than a posed picture. So I dragged the image of the sketchbook page onto Photoshop and started my line art. I also brought in puppets of Polina and Oleg so that I can work with them later.

Starting on the line art!

It was difficult starting the line art because of the way I sketched this image, ahahaha. I freehanded the sketch and didn’t think about the perspective too much. That made it difficult to digitize it and make it clean. But I figured it out! It looks fine(-ish) now. I tried to add more structure to the market stalls so that I could figure out where to start. Doing this was important because it will help me how to fit the characters within the environment. I also placed Oleg and Polina together because if they’re shopping for candy, I’d like to think that they do it together πŸ™‚

That’s all for this shift! I’ll try to be more diligent with blogging!

COLA IDs, STA patches, V-labs, and edits!

October 9, 2018 By Valerie Tran

I haven’t been very diligent in updating my blog, so I should probably put everything that I’ve done since my last post!

I worked on this week’s COLA IDs and knocked those out for the day. For the first client, I brought out a lot more color in his face and brightened up the image for both sizes. For the second client, I tried to tone down the redness, took out some warmth from the overall picture for both sizes, and brightened up both images.

The COLA IDs I did for this week!

I also submitted my STA patch designs (though conceptually they’re not very different from one another, lol). Suloni and I both liked the brain design I did for the retired Psych CE project. Suloni suggested that I enter into the STA Patch competition with this brain drawing, and I was like, “sure”. So here it is! They’re essentially the same design, just with different colors. I wish that I changed them up

Wow! Patches!!!

I also finished one of the Russian Illustration edits! I’m currently waiting for feedback on it. I colored the skin. and clothes of the people in the background. While I was coloring, I decided to also re-outline them for better visibility (so I can color better lol) and to make the image look more crisp and clean.

Look at all those colorfully dressed people!

I also sketched out an illustration for approval. It’s Polina, Oleg, and Antonia visiting the market!

Sketch of Polina, Oleg, and Antonia going to the market!
