The Second Page begins…

November 2, 2018 By Sanika Bhave

Round 2!!

So now that the home page is done it’s time to move on to the next page for the UT Appstore. I wish I’d taken more progress shots of the website as I was building it, so here is a shot of the barebones that I’ll be working with.

Yeah.. as you can see she’s looking a bit rough right now! No worries though, we’ll fix her up in no time. Stay tuned for her adventure!!!

Appstore Home Page

November 2, 2018 By Sanika Bhave

The home page is finally here…

Chris & I have come up with the “last” version of the Appstore homepage. I say “last” because Jac still has to look over this and I’m sure some changes will need to be made in the future. As of right now, the Appstore looks like this.

I’m honestly just astounded that Chris was able to take my simple code and make it look like this! As you can see, he was able to override some of Bootstrap’s rule which I wasn’t able to and make UI better by bettering the responsiveness of the text and the headers and footers. Overall, it was a great experience and I learned so much about Bootstrap and CSS in general. I think that having built the homepage and the framework (the header, footer, background etc.) will make it easier and quicker for me to build the other pages.

Appstore Front Page Banner & Footer

October 29, 2018 By Sanika Bhave

I am pleased to announce that the Header & Footer for the Appstore’s front page is finally … DONE!

This was pretty difficult for me because though I have experience with HTML & CSS, I’ve never worked on code to this scale. So much work and responsibility! I’m loving it though.

Here’s a quick view of how it looks so far.

As you can tell, there’s still a lot of work to be done with the main “cards” which will contain the information of the actual individual apps. There’s also some responsive issues — when I was coding the LAITS footer, it was correctly in the bottom right but when the user resizes the browser, the footer shifts. This also happens with the “Canvas apps developed..” text. I’ll have to look into making it flow later. Chris says that these are issues that we can work with later and don’t need to cause a stop in development. Additionally, I worked on changing the “Back to Canvas” logo to being clickable and adjusting the size so that the link isn’t restricted to just the size of the text. The issues aren’t completely fixed but we’re getting there. I also changed the link colors from blue to longhorn burnt orange! So fun.

It’s coming together!! Slowly but surely.

Appstore!

October 24, 2018 By Sanika Bhave

Progress Update!

So I finally troubleshooted my problems with downloading, cloning, and working with Git. I’m pleased to announce that I’ve started to actually code and make changes to the static HTML that Chris provided me with!

Here’s a screenshot of the site so far. I changed the “Texas” logo, the “Canvas App Store” bit, as well as the tiled banner and the text overlaid on it. Getting the tiled banner to display was a REAL pain, but Chris taught me how to resize images on Photoshop on my own so I was able to work on that on my own. I’m hoping to finish the banner completely by next time, but overlaying the image button (which takes you back to canvas) over the tiled banner is turning out to be far more difficult than I expected.

So far so good, I’m really loving the orange tones EVERYWHERE on the mockup and this site!

Canvas Appstore Project Day ONE!

October 19, 2018 By Sanika Bhave

Beginning the Canvas Appstore Project

Project: Canvas Appstore
Completion status: Started October 19 2018
Staff guidance: Chris Pittman
STA team members: Jac
Description/plans: Download a server & start running some code! Also meet with Jac about UI design.
To be completed: Not really sure to be honest

After my orientation I immediately jumped into my first project. It turns out that UT is trying to build an Appstore for different Canvas add-ons! It looks as if I’ll be using the design elements that Jac has created to code into CSS.

So, to begin, I met with Chris and got the lay of the land on Git. Later, I started to install MAMPS which is the server that I’ll be using for this project. I ran into some issues when confirming that I could run my files on this server, so I reached out to Chris and hopefully I can get that sorted out for Monday. I also met with Jac today and she gave me some great notes on how to code the CSS for this project so that’s super exciting!

I also took a tour of the LAITS Studio and took my photo for the STA poster!

My First Day! (STA Orientation)

October 15, 2018 By Sanika Bhave

My First Day! (STA Orientation)

Today was my first day as an STA. After reading through the STA handbook with Suloni I made this Basecamp avi with Tate! After, I created a PowerPoint talking about some of the things I learned today. Melissa introduced me to The Noun Project which is where I got all of my icons from.
