blog update, whats ~new~

November 14, 2018 By Chloe Kim

I feel like I haven’t done a whole lot this past week, but I was pretty excited to learn Canvassar from Nick (& Estella) – mainly because I’ve heard so much about it, but never got to see what it actually is and how it works. It’s been kind of confusing, but it’s mainly because my account wasn’t set up right and I couldn’t follow along during the tutorial. Now it’s finally good to go, so I just have to toy around with Canvassar a little bit to feel more comfortable with it!

Othe than that, I worked on more RUS412 illustrations/ assets:

newwww update

November 7, 2018 By Chloe Kim

The past week, I have been doing bunch of things, including photo ID’s, new RUS412 illustration + assets, training for Cavassar + vlabs stuff, and also AIH banner design.

<photo ID’s>

There have been some problems with Qualtrics lately, and we’ve had some ~frustrated~ clients, but Suloni and the STA’s have been patiently walking them through the process! Communication is very, very important!

<RUS 412 Illustration & Animation Assets>

For the new illustrations for RUS412, we are changing things up a little bit. Kathy has asked us to make simple characters portraying certain emotions/movement/gesture, and my first assignment was on “toothache.” It’s been challenging, because I get nervous about drawing humans!!! So the first time I attempted at the assignment, some proportions were off and my style didn’t match Kathy’s:

Kathy has kindly gave me suggestions as to how I could ~fix~ this illustration: “i think color-wise it’s matching the style we’re going for, but i think there’s a bit too much detail in the face and hands. the proportions are looking a bit off, but i don’t imagine it being a difficult fix! the hand’s too big in comparison to the rest of the body, so if you could shrink the hand and remove the detail on the knuckles of the fingers, it’d look more in line with what we’re going for! also, for the nose, maybe keep the nose bridge separate from the bottom of the nose and keep details on the face drawn with thinner lines. also i think drawing the lips is looking a bit too harsh. it’s actually looking a bit too stylized at the moment! i quickly roughed out what it might look like with the proportions fixed + more subtle details so you can get a better idea of what direction you should be going in.”

So… here’s my final product after making the adustments! Wahoo!

I have also finished coloring in the knife set from last time for the RUS animation assets:

As for AIH, I don’t think Stacy is looking for a specific banner design. So I came up with a quick rough draft just to see if I was going in the right direction. Suloni has suggested some adjustments I could make, but this is what I have so far!

update

October 31, 2018 By Chloe Kim

This past week has been hectic!! But it’s been good, because I was able to get to other projects after I was done with the AIH website content portion. I think most of my work has been for Tate and the RUS412 animation scene assets.

I finished the bathroom shelf clutter objects:

bathroom tiles:

And then I trained a project manager STA (Will) on how to do the Photo ID’s. I had to rewrite the instructions for him because we thought he wouldn’t be able to use Photoshop, so Suloni and I had to learn GIMP, but it ended up being too glitchy, so Will offered to use photoshop (hallelujah!!!). yay.

I also am working on another asset for Tate – it’s a knife set (still needs to be colored):

it’s been two weeks!

Last time, I worked on a few AIH logo design:

I also finally finished the content portion of the AIH website!!!! But I still have to make new adjustments that Stacy asked me too… sed.

I also got the opportunity to finally work on the RUS412 projects for both illustration & animation. I had to color in the blank people for the previous illustrations:

For the RUS412 animation, Tate has asked me to decorate a bathroom shelf with bottles, towels, etc. Here’s my sketch so far:

And then I have been doing photo ID’s here and there:

update, update, update.

October 10, 2018 By Chloe Kim

I didn’t do anything super exciting this past week… I mainly worked on the AIH website & some photo ID’s.

There’s a whole bunch to do for the AIH website than I thought. It’s really tedious having to download all the files from the old website or make the content into a .pdf/ .doc to upload it to the new website. There are also a LOT of subpages and Stacy and I are trying to figure out how to compress all the information into as little number of pages as possible. Stay tuned…. https://demo2.la.utexas.edu/

Then the photo ID’s!!
