Ethics and Fairness in AI

Ethics and Fairness in AI Logo Design

For this design, I was instructed to create a logo that represented the ethics in AI. This logo design has been a rollercoaster.

Since AI typical icons are brains, I wanted to create something different since I have already created a brain for the other icon. Therefore, it was best to focus on the ethics side and include AI elements.

Here is all the overly complicated designs I created:

Honestly, Maddy has been a tremendous help with getting me to simplify my designs and approach the design in different ways.

This is the direction we are currently working toward with minor adjustments.

Machine Learning Final

This was the final logo choice for this course. It is a brain with a white circle at a 50% opacity to represent a magnify glass.

I was also instructed to create a quick animatic to help JP know how the animation sequence would play out.

Machine Learning

Machine Learning Icon

This week I have mainly been working on the completion of the Machine Learning Icon. This design went through many iterations, but we finally come to a design.

When researching a potential design, I wanted to create something the incorporated the brain for learning and something with wires for the machine part.

These were my first two designs:

We decided to go in the direction of the brain that was split with the nodes inside. The main edits were to get the brain to have more of an oblong shape and to find a different way to incorporate the magnify glass.

This was the direction we decided to move towards. But we wanted to change the white circle with an opacity of 50% and to make the nodes inside a cutout to match the background of the image.

This was the final draft:

Machine Learning & Ethics and Fairness

Machine Learning & Ethics and Fairness

project: Case Studies in Machine Learning
Client /Prof: Junfeng Jiao
completion status: Started September 14th 2021
staff guidance: Maddy
STA team members: JP
description/plans: Design course icon, prepare AI files for animation, and create graphics suite.
To be completed: September 24th (icon) October 15th (complete)

Notes:

The focus of this course is technology (specifically machine learning is used to achieve goals. For the course logo, I was thinking maybe a magnifier glass zooming in on something machine learning related (honestly, we might be able to even use the machine learning logo but let me double check that one). Similarly to the ethics course, we’re quite open to anything.

project: Ethics and Fairness in AI
Client /Prof: Ken Fleischmann
completion status: Started September 14th 2021
staff guidance: Maddy
STA team members: N/A
description/plans: Design course icon, prepare file for animation, animate intro and create graphics suite.
To be completed: October 15th (complete)

Notes:

The focus of the course is to look at the ethics surrounding AI from different perspectives (including gender, race, etc.). For the course logo, Colin was thinking of something along the lines of maybe the ethics scale. But we are super open to any other ideas.
