Studio Color Correcting

October 8, 2020 By Abriella Corker

Studio Color Correcting

Studio 6 and 10 have different lighting that is affecting the way the wall monitor backdrops appear. One has warmer lights and the other has natural lights. I had a zoom call with Miguel and Maddy to figure out how we can color adjust backdrops before sending them out to studio tests so that they may be more accurate to the colors we want them to look like. In Studio 6, all the images get a purple tint. We realized that if we make something in green the purple tint will make it look blue like so:

Then we noticed that in Studio 10 the lights give everything higher contrast along with a tad bit of tinting. As you can see below comparing the first image with the last. To fix this we need to export a  second version of a background with adjustments to extra-less contrast.

For my edits, I added a transparent overlay of purple to the original BG and then clicked on the original layer underneath the tinted purple one to adjust the hue until it looked blue again. As I suspected adjusting for a more green made it look blue underneath. This is how the two different backdrops for the Studio 6 and 10 ended up looking like.

AI Image Live Tracing

October 8, 2020 By Poonum Mehta

I’ve been slowly working on an image live tracing training for a few days. Through this training, I learned how to make a detailed outline of an image, change the coloring and effects of that image, and turn it into a custom shape.

This is the original image I used:

I played around with the different image trace effects for a bit and created three different thresholds:

Finally, I created a work path to define a custom shape for my design, which is now saved on photoshop for later use. I added a color overlay and this is the final result!

This training was pretty fun and taught me the use for a bunch of small psd and ai tools that I’m familiar with but never really put into practice. Definitely looking forward to using the other image trace settings to create some cool outline graphics and maybe logo designs.

Final Round of Drafting

Final Round of Drafting Grid Background Templates

Below are my final drafts of my different grid layouts. Maddy narrowed down the different styles I did to these two and asked that I do a stats and chemistry version of each one. This was to try out different course subjects in relation to the design. Overall, I think doing many reiterations of these in slightly different ways to test out what was working and not working visually helped to make these better than how they started. Formatting the .psd files into a followable template also helped me pair down the elements more and think about creating something that is interesting to look at but also not incredibly overwhelming to try to duplicate.

This week has been a lot of things! I worked on the spreadsheet for the COLA Staff Photo ID Initiative and made significant progress on the studio graphics and Canvasser trainings. Here’s a sample of my work.

2 Words that start with C and Photo IDs

October 2, 2020 By Danielle Daynos

This week I worked on Canvasser, Training for Character Design, and Photos IDs.

These are some of the IDs I worked on. Used a technique from previous training to make the lighting appear brighter on the right side of her face.

Started the draft for the Character Design Training. I linked some videos and websites that could help. I plan to make the drawings I want to insert next time I’m on shift. Here are some snippets of the text.

The last thing I worked on this week was Canvasser. Finally got done making the assets and uploading them. The process is a little slow as I have so many objects and I need to re-make some of the assets after talking with Maddy, but it’s getting there!
