GOV Logo

October 9, 2020 By Cristina Villarreal Núñez

GOV Logo

For this project I had to communicate with a client from the Department of Government in the College of Liberal Arts.

They had a previous design made for a GOV Logo, but their initial request for me was to set this logo against a lighter background; “for example, against a grey/light grey background rather than navy blue?”

So I did that, and with guidance from my peer mentor and from Suloni, these were the original changes I came up with and sent the client for him to choose from.

However, as I sent those images I also had to ask the client for the file types and formats of their preference (as in: .pdf, .ai, .png, .jpg, etc), and if they would be needing these for web use or for printing.

The client then answered that they would like to keep both backgrounds, and added that these would be used for email, Mailchimp and  for headers in google docs. So he left that up to me. But I was also asked to design a couple of versions without the words, just the GOV part.

Finally, with all of this in mind I created a bunch of designs and mock-ups of how they would look like in their respective fields and came up with this final pdf to sent to the client: GOV-Logo Guide You can find evidence of my designs there!

Poster Edits

This week I made a few more edits to the Fall 2020 STA roster poster. There was previously a bunch of empty space at the bottom where the logo and title were supposed to be, so it was suggested that I create a long stamp with the LAITS logo to fill that space. I also added a different filler stamp to the audio section using the green color to make it fit better will the overall aesthetic. I’m pretty happy with how it came out in the end, it’ll be exciting to see how it gets used!

Canvasser Troubleshooting

Other than the poster, I’ve been spending a lot of my time giving feedback on Canvasser games and troubleshooting issues that people have been having. One thing that’s been hanging people up a lot is conditionals, and Suloni suggested that we incorporate an FAQ section at the end of the Canvasser tutorial. So I’ve started putting one together, going off of questions that have come up a lot recently. Here’s what it’s looking like:

Basic Training: CLIO Module Training Pt.1 – Getting Started

Basic Training: CLIO Module Training Pt.1

Getting Started

Though I am very much not done with this training, there are some things I did that I want to give you guys an update on since I started the KB.

So far, the CLIO page looks like this. It’s very basic and incomplete, but you can see I added an activity in there called The Basics.

Inside that activity you will find three cards.

Card #1

Card #1 looks like this. It has a brief intro description and an image with the title Learning The Basics.

Card #2

Card #2 looks like this.  It has a list of words that are easily translated from English to Spanish and a a decorative image.

Card #3

Card #3 looks like this. It has an embedded video teaching the pronunciation of the translated words from the previous card to prove the point that they not only look similar, but also sound similar. That video is also linked to in this card.

This is the link, just in case you are curious as to what the video looks like: https://youtu.be/s3f9ILyK4GI

This week I’ve definitely done a variety of things! I wrapped up the studio graphic training, so here’s the design menu for it.

Next, I started and made significant progress on the AI logo training. I chose a very retro pixelated heart theme with my initials.

Lastly, I finished making my Canvasser game assets and starting exporting and subsequently uploading them to Canvasser.

Fairies and Bread

October 9, 2020 By Danielle Daynos

This week I worked on my Canvasser game and a new training I’m making over Character Design!

For the Canvasser game, I’m pretty close to being done. I was able to include an “ingredient bar” at the top so that you can click back and forth through each recipe. The recipe book at the bottom now has a “mix” button in order to get the pop-up to show. After talking with Bridget, we’ve figured out a way to be able to check each ingredient without having to create a new Canvasser for each recipe by using “modvar”. So I’ll be working on that next week and hopefully, that’ll wrap that up!

The new training over Character Design has been so much fun to work on! Here are the images I’ll be placing into the instructions including sketches, color schemes, and the final design. This is just my example to show for guidance, everyone will be making their own character. Also with Suloni’s suggestion, I’m adding a part 2 talking about 180-degree views and why it is important next week.
