CLIO Feedback and Troubleshooting

October 28, 2020 By Thuy H Nguyen

CLIO Feedback and Troubleshooting

I’ve been working on some CLIO feedback and troubleshooting for the STA on the training. Everyone’s been doing really well and there’s only some minor issues, but all resolved! 🙂

HTML and CSS Training

HTML and CSS Training

I’ve been working on coordinating everyone on the HTML and CSS Training, since the first iteration of the instructions is done. I had a call with Sheryl, Ingrid, and Poonum earlier this week to get them set up with the server and ssh. We ran into minor troubles here and there but everything works well so far. I’ll be having a meeting with Megan next week to help her set up as well.

A Conclusion to Canvasser Training and More

A Conclusion to Canvasser Training and More

I’M FINALLY DONE WITH CANVASSER TRAINING! This is the interactive game that I ended up creating:

Last week I also finished the InDesign training assignment- here are my color/font choices and final design:

University Lecture Series Poster

I’ve also been updating the homepage banner/informal logo/and faculty listing page for the Center for East Asian Studies website. They first asked for a better fitting homepage banner and followed up with a request to update to their old informal logo. I did draft a new greyed-out logo but they ultimately decided to not have any icon imagery on their page. And a bit more challenging, they requested to have their faculty listed resorted by home departments. These are the final products 🙂

AI Shape Manipulation Training

October 27, 2020 By Poonum Mehta

This week I worked on a shape manipulation training that taught me how to create different shapes using the direct selection / pen tool, as well as combining/subtracting certain parts of shapes. I made this lil pattern, pretty neat:

The coolest part of this training was getting to mess around with this bird that was created out of a bunch of overlapping, trimmed ellipses:

I used this tool I’ve never even heard of on illustrator called the shape builder to add and subtract parts of each of these shapes, eventually creating this lil birdy!:

Pretty fun. Would love to play around with this tool for some logo design fun.

Canvasser – Done!

October 27, 2020 By Poonum Mehta

My canvasser game is finally finished and has been added to my CLIO module! This was a struggle to get finished, primarily because I was experiencing some really weird canvasser glitches. I was only able to work on the program for about an hour each day before something went wrong with my computer, resulting in my edits not saving countless times. Eventually I was traumatized enough to be saving every 5 minutes and got it done 🙂

I ended up splitting the culinary / biological classifications into two separate games, as I felt it would be a bit too complicated to reset all of the assets after the first click-and-drag game was over. There are some animations that I can’t capture with a screenshot so I’ll try to paint you all a picture of what’s going on.

In this first screenshot, I’ve just dragged the pineapple into the culinary vegetable box. The pop up on the right (angry pineapple) fades out within 2 seconds, and the clickable pineapple is being launched back to its original spot for the user to try again.

Here, I’ve just dragged the plum into the correct basket and a happy plum appears 🙂 This will also fade out in 2s.

Same functions are applied to the biological classification game with different pop ups for the adjustments. Don’t get me wrong, this was super fun to make and SO rewarding to see the final product. I just wish canvasser liked me more and wouldn’t quit on me so often 🙁 Looking forward to some canvasser projects in the future!

InDesign Training and Studio Course Training

October 23, 2020 By Danielle Daynos

This week I worked on two pieces of training: InDesign Part 2 and Studio Course Training.

For the InDesign Training, I went with a hexagonal theme. It made me think of science and data, like how DNA fits together like a puzzle. I thought it tied in with the topic of Race and Gender. Here are the 3 different color ways I came up with.

Before coming up with this as my final image.

For the Studio Course training, I’m still in the beginning stages. I decided to go with ART3800: Twentieth-Century Art as my subject to practice with. I’m still pulling a bunch of images and making some mock-ups. The image below is an idea for a collage. I think I’m going to make the museum a black and white silhouette so that it’s not so busy. This pulls items from the museum as well as the syllabus.

For the second design I’m drawing inspiration from the Bauhaus style, this one will be in color. This is just an idea, it won’t say “Name of the Course” in the final. I just wanted to get an idea of where I wanted to place it. This mainly pulls from the syllabus.
