Dana Center: Strategic Direction Infographics Updates

Dana Center: Strategic Direction Infographics Updates 3/28/22

Hello! It’s almost April – wow.

The past few shifts, I have been working on making edits to the strategic direction infographics. I had sent over the first two prior to spring break, and received feedback last Wednesday that allowed me to begin making changes.

Infographic 1

The first infographic I sent over initially had these two versions:

Our clients preferred the orange one. They also requested a title, as well as several changes to the general structure of the infographic.  The current version I created based on these changes looks like this:

After speaking with Suloni and Maddy, we decided the graphic had quite a lot going on. Additionally, the sections are a bit hard to parse. We edited it further and currently it looks like this:

We also decided to add slight curves to the boxes to match the Dana Center website. I will update this further once more changes are made!

Infographic 2

The second infographic started out looking like this:

Much like the first infographic, the second one needed a title, as well as some changes in regards to general structure. The current draft looks like this:

We ultimately decided to edit this graphic to better match the first one, and so right now it looks like this:

We mostly changed the color and added rounded corners. I will post again once more changes are made!

Lingco Banner Updates

We are still in the process of deciding the direction we want to take these banners in. Yazz and Pat want to see a version where Tex and Tammy are in the primary banners and one where they are not. So far here are how the finalized options are looking. Once we get a solid decision on things we can start assigning these out to STAs to move things along.

Fun with Numbers

Fun with Numbers

I just wanted to spotlight these numbers I made for the numbers presentation for the French course. They were the most fun thing to make. I used sources such as old magazines, canva, pinterest, etc. I really enjoy typography and working in collage so getting a moment to do this for work was a lot of fun.

My First Week as an STA!

March 25, 2022 By Keshav Thamalla

Hello, it’s Keshav! I am a second-year Mathematics major with a large interest in web development! Today I have officially completed my first full week as an STA at LAITS. I had an exceptional time completing my orientation assignments and familiarizing myself with the workplace setting and the online tools needed to track my work. I started this week off by working on my STA banner and self-portrait. You can see my self-portrait below.

I had a lot of fun creating this avatar and even found him an outfit that I have worn before! I saw that the blog homepage banner has already been updated with my avatar and it is extremely cool to see it amongst all the other STAs.

I also worked on developing an STA handbook webpage that you can access at: https://jsfiddle.net/keshavt/kqbad3c1/147/

On my page, you can find a slideshow, including pictures and captions describing several rules regarding STA shifts. Underneath it, I included more rules and images. One cool thing I got to learn with this webpage was inheriting a new font and font effect from the Google Fonts API to enhance my headers.

I had a really positive experience doing my orientation this week and I’m excited to dive into more web development training next week!

First Week as an STA

March 23, 2022 By Hoa Truong

Today, March 25th marks my first week of working as an STA. I am very excited and thankful for having this opportunity to work and contribute to the LAITS team.  I gained a lot of valuable information about STA, LAITS during the orientation. It was a really good time.

During my first week, I designed my self portrait. I learnt how to use photoshop to crop the image.

This is the picture of my self portrait.

Also, I finished the handbook webpage. The idea is to make a flip book and each page of the book contains the information from the handbook that I found interesting.
