VLabs Management

September 9, 2019 By Maddy Kaniewski

Managing VLabs

Our previous STA who had been managing VLabs has graduated (Valerie, you and your Luna updates are missed) and I have taken her place managing this beast of a project. I’m excited about this role and honored to move up this quickly at LAITS. I hope I can be as encouraging and helpful as she was. There’s about 5-6 of us working part-time on this now, so things will move slower but I hope to keep things organized and moving forward.

The first thing I did was some reorganization of our Basecamp to-dos. Each person has a clean list that will appear in their general to-do’s now. I hope with this system everyone can clearly see their assignments and where they are in the pipeline.

To keep up momentum I’ve trained a couple of STAs on how to review PSDs and they are all doing great!

Suloni has also asked me to create some new beginner and intermediate level trainings for Canvasser and Adobe XD. I’m honestly really excited at the prospect of more management and training-oriented roles as an STA. These tasks are coincidentally matching up well with my coursework this semester in Management and Org Comm. Communication, organization, and improving systems are where I thrive and I look forward at a chance to improve my teaching skills. Senior year and it’s all coming together!

Finished HTML/CSS Formatting in Cascade Part 1

September 6, 2019 By Abriella Corker

FINISHED HTML/CSS FORMATTING IN CASCADE PART 1

Here is a page I made to practice inserting buttons. This has to be done manually in the code so I used a page that had buttons already as reference. Most of it can be done outside of the code however. I mostly went in there to make the teal buttons and to format it correctly to the page. Keeping the insect theme going on strong!

Making Buttons

BUTTONS: CASCADE TRAINING CONTINUED

These are some of the button icons I made to go with part of the cascade training example I need to follow. I decided to start on making the content that will need to be inputed into the site first so I can work on building it fluidly without stopping to fill in parts that aren’t made yet. Bridget had an example with six but I only did 3 for the sake of time to start working on making a new page in the site. My theme is bugs so there is a roach, butterfly, and pill bug.

Updating Banners

UPDATING BANNERS

I was working on client communication over the course of a couple days getting this banner uploaded to their site. The first image is the one that was changed out because it looked too low quality. The client went with this copyright free image out of the different suggestions given.

First days as STA

September 5, 2019 By Jalisa Broussard

I’m currently a Sociology major with a certificate in Computer Science in the process of transferring to CNS. It’s been three days as an STA and so far I’ve gone through orientation and completed a couple assignments for my blog. The assignments have been fun and allowed for lots of creative freedom so I’ve really enjoyed doing them. The STA program is also very well structured so whenever I’m feeling lost there’s always tools (and Suloni) to steer me in the right direction. I’m excited to continue moving forward onto other projects and learn more about coding and graphic design.
