Web Responsive Changes for Enhancing French Skills Site

June 11, 2020 By Mounika Tadanki

I am currently working on making the Enhancing French Skills website responsive. It is in a better shape compared to the Chinese site and would not require too many design changes. The background is repeating on smaller screen sizes and pages where there is a lot of content. I fixed this issue and I am currently working on an experiment with the margin, padding, and re-aligning a few elements on the page for a better viewing experience on smaller screen resolutions.

Self Portrait Guide for Photo IDs

June 11, 2020 By Mounika Tadanki

I worked on the photo guide in Cascade and updated the content and images for the page. I have added the Yes and No checkmarks for the example images. This is a Work In Progress and we need to update the page with more relevant images and also add to the content after referring to the updated guidelines.

Wrapping Up LRC

The clients requested three final mockups (below) last Thursday showing different functionality/views of the site to potentially use in their grant proposal. I haven’t heard back from them yet, so I’m not completely sure what the status of this project is, but it’s basically winding down.

In my remaining time (I was given 12 hours for this project) I’ll probably put the assets for the interactive all together in a folder in Box so they can be used in the future.

Knowledge Base

This past week I’ve been focusing on updates to the Knowledge Base. We’re reorganizing the site to have more of a focus on basic trainings, plus we’re updating the actual basic trainings to make sure they’re current.

I recently finished the basic training on how to make a gif in Photoshop, which is here: http://sites.la.utexas.edu/kb/2020/02/04/create-your-own-animated-gif/

I’m also working on redoing the live tracing tutorial. The original training is pretty outdated because the tool has more features in newer versions of illustrator (it’s also not called live tracing anymore; it’s called image tracing).

Here is the original live tracing tutorial: http://sites.la.utexas.edu/kb/2014/01/13/illustrator-livetracing-tutorials/

Here is the updated image tracing tutorial I’m working on: http://sites.la.utexas.edu/kb/2020/06/10/image-tracing-in-illustrator/

LRC Logo Mock Ups

June 10, 2020 By Abriella Corker

Linguistics Research Center

Project: Creating a logo for the Linguistics Research Center 60 year anniversary
Client /Prof: Prof. Hans Boas
Completion status: Started May 19, 2020
Staff guidance: Suloni Robertson
STA team members: Maddy Kaniewski
Description/plans: Creating a new logo for LRC that is in style with their homepage and the image they provided.
To be completed: June 15th, 2020

The first two images were created using the official UT wordmark and pulling colors from their site homepage banner. Although we found out there was some miscommunication and that they wanted something different. So the next set of logos is based on an image Prof. Boas provided. For the updated logo I kept using the UT serif font and made them in illustrator. I don’t use illustrator a lot so I had to learn quickly how to edit parts of the text to get the outlined effect similar to the image that was given to us. It was pretty easy to figure out though. Although the first draft was a ‘failure’ I think the new ones look really formal and concise and I also learned how to do something new. All in all, I think it was a good project. Once he lets me know which option he likes I’m going to fix them up just ever so slightly and send it off.

Taking Stock of what is on the KB

June 10, 2020 By Abriella Corker

Taking Stock of what is on the KB

Maddy has put together this spreadsheet for us to go through and identify all the content that is on our knowledge base. We are going to be re-editing and updating a lot of this content to be more efficient, clear, and useful for new hires that are going to be coming in. All the content in red is out-dated and not applicable, everything in green is good to stay, and all the stuff in orange we need clarification on its usefulness or maybe needs more updating to turn into green. Everything in yellow is a basic training which is what Suloni would like the main point of the KB to be. To train people on how to do things. Currently, I am waiting to talk with Maddy and possibly Bridget on what the next steps of this will look like.
