STA Blog

LAITS Student Technology Assistants collaborate with the College of Liberal Arts faculty and administration by re-imagining their instructional and promotional projects with a creative use of video, audio, web and graphic design. STAs learn technical skills on the job with LAITS development studio staff. They build presentations, produce audio/visual works, scan text documents & perform image correction. STAs are instrumental in helping COLA faculty realize their vision for instructional technology projects used to enhance the teaching and learning experience.

Today I did one of the color correction tutorials and started on the gif tutorial as well. There haven’t been many projects coming in so it’s a good time to get some tutorials in! Hopefully the projects pick up soon though…

Comparative Literature Banner

October 26, 2016 By Bethany Wong

This was the first the draft for the new Comparative Literature banner for their website:

banner-w-ribbonI took away the “Comparative Literature” and ribbon and added the different language letters/characters into the patterned line work in the background, varying them in size and color:

comlitbannerSince this major focuses on different literature across the world, there is great importance in the many languages they study so this banner emphasizes the languages more with a few more art nouveau accents:

comp-lit-banner-2

This next draft is using a base composition of a stairwell photo that was provided by the client. The different language letters are still present but are instead integrated in this art nouveau stairwell composition using jewel tones:

And here is the latest banner in context:

livetrace

Just finished the live trace tutorial! It’s pretty hard. I like how I got a lot of the detail on the feathers but I think the head looks a little obscured.

P2021 Template

October 25, 2016 By Roopa Nagarajan

Went through about 100 photos to choose 5 that best fit the five categories for the P2021 page

  • About the Development Studio
  • Audio
  • Video
  • Digital Instruction
  • Online Course Instruction

devstudio-banners-template

Original template with five sizes that the five photos needed to each be sized for.

After taking the image and positioning it, I saved for web and devices to only save the specific slices needed. I did this for all five images for all five sizes 4 times each: color, color + tint, black and white, and bw + tint. I turned visibility of the text on and off to see which level of darkness would work best.

Template was changed to six pictures. Shown here are Digital Instruction and About the Development Studio in BW + tint and color + tint, respectively.
