Battle Casts Updates

Battle Casts Updates

I put more assets sent over by the client from the Xd file. I had to do some manipulations of the assets to make them display correctly at various viewport, but I think it’s been going well. Here are some screenshots of some of the pages I’ve been working on at various viewport sizes.

More Updates on Battle Casts

More Updates on Battle Casts

I pushed some more changes to Battle Casts, particularly on the Recolorations page. I changed the page’s layout slightly and also tweaked the Search bar so that I can reuse the search bar I already made on the map page. I also did some client communication to request for assets.

Here’s the layout for the new site I just made.

Battle Casts Updates

Battle Casts Updates

I’ve been working on the skeleton site for Battle Casts. For this project I’ve been using plain HTML, CSS, JS, and Bootstrap. Stacy also suggested me learning Less.js and / or Sass to write cleaner CSS, so I’ve been doing that as well and it’s been very exciting. I ended up choosing to learn Less.js, but it turned out that I needed to use Sass as well because I wanted to customize the Bootstrap default theme to fit the client’s prototype’s theme, and the customizing that requires writing Sass. Either way, both are pretty intuitive and easy to understand, so the learning curve was gentle.

The biggest thing that I learned so far in this project is how to utilize Bootstrap to make the site 100% responsive. It can be a pretty fun exercise to think about how certain website components translates to a smaller viewport.

Here are some screenshots of my progress so far.

HTML / CSS Training Feedback

HTML / CSS Training Feedback

I’ve been giving feedback on the HTML and CSS training. I wanted to give very detailed feedback so I thought of commenting in-line with the code so that it’s easier for me to refer to what I was talking about as well as for the STAs to look at.

I Designed for a Charity Fundraiser!

I Designed for a Charity Fundraiser!

It’s been a while since I made a life update post, so here it is!

A few weeks ago I did the crazy thing of messaging Tiffany Poon, a concert pianist and YouTuber whom I really admire, on Instagram because I had an idea: I wanted to ask her if she would be interested in using my designs of the Composer Collages on merch totes to raise funds for her charity, Together with Classical.

She responded!!!!!!!!! (I was very thrilled if you haven’t noticed).

Long story short, my designs are now up on the Together with Classical store for a new fundraiser, with all proceeds to the Support Act, Help Musicians UK, MusiCares, and Music Health Alliance (all charities / non-profit organizations related to the music industry).

Classical music and the piano means a lot to me, and so this is very exciting!! I really don’t considered myself an artist, but I’m really grateful to have this opportunity to help make a difference with my designs. Thank you so much!

While we’re at it, I’ll also recommend this performance below by Tiffany Poon of Schumann-Liszt Widmung (Dedication), originally written by Robert Schumann in 1840 in Myrthen, a set of lieder, as a wedding gift to Clara Schumann, and transcribed by Liszt. The piece is marked with a memorable and sweet melody, while still having those technical bravura typical of Liszt. I think Tiffany’s performance is my favorite so far of this piece because of some subtle but unique phrasing.

HTML / CSS Training Troubleshooting

HTML / CSS Training Troubleshooting

I’ve been helping other STAs who are working on the HTML and CSS training troubleshoot their site. At the beginning we had a lot of problems with ssh into the server (I don’t really know why T.T) but it’s gotten a little better now (the STAs have been ssh fine). Here are some screenshots of the troubleshooting I’ve been doing (we have a Slack channel for help on this training). Everyone’s site has been looking very unique and exciting, so I really hope everyone enjoys this training :).
