Update

July 11, 2018 By Chloe Kim

Last week, I mostly worked on my U1_10 illustration and cascade re-documentation updates on the Google doc with the other STA’s. I also worked on a LAH flyer using one of the Microsoft Word newsletter template.

Here are the details regarding the U1_10 illustration: Polina and Oleg are sitting at the kitchen table, resting their face in their hands so that they have an identical, bored appearance (if face in hand it too hard, I’m open to other options). They’re listening to Boris (grandpa) read from a book he’s holding in one hand.

…had to make adjustments to the chairs to make them ~fancier~ and also fix a few other things, like Oleg’s facial expression to look more “bored.”

<final> –> added shadows to the chairs & fixed Boris’ awkward looking palm.

Last Week

July 3, 2018 By Chloe Kim

Last week, I worked on various projects. I finally finished my first draft of “This is Democracy” podcast art:

I also worked on the Tec slides for Bridget with Suloni:

I also worked on my RUS412 illustration test that Kathy assigned to me. It’s been a while since I’ve drawn an illustration for the RUS class, but I knew as soon as I started the assignment how much I’ve missed it! I can’t wait to help Kathy on the illustration projects. Here’s the illustration I drew for our “test”:

I also helped with some Cascade projects for faculty/ staff – this one was for replacing the Economics department banner. I am getting the hang of how to navigate through cascade, and hopefully, I’ll be ready with the other STA’s to help faculty and staff be more familiar with the navigation, also. We are planning on holding a training (?) day for one of the professors and her team. I have a lot to learn before then!

Design Stuff

June 26, 2018 By Chloe Kim

Other than a whole lot of photo ID trainings and handing out photo ID assignments out to the new STA’s, I have also worked on some design projects.

First is making my own character design for the RUS 412 animations. It’s been almost a year since I’ve used Adobe Animate!!! So I have been super slow with using the tools and getting my way through the program yesterday. However, Tate organized everything so well and gave clear instructions that I managed to finish my first character – the waiter!!! I still have to make some adjustments, like getting rid of the ponytail and centering the hat. I can’t wait to keep working with Adobe Animate!

I also made some adjustments to the podcast cover art. Still have to add/ make changes, like add the wigs, put some colored splatters in the background (Suloni’s request), and play around with the words. So far, I like the way it looks..I think!

projects

June 18, 2018 By Chloe Kim

The past few weeks, I’ve worked on several different projects. The latest one I’ve worked on was the podcast cover art for “This is Democracy” – it was really fun to design the illustration and create my first rough drafts. I think this is the first time I’ve fully scratched something from scratch and allowed to showcase my creativity at work as an STA. I hope Suloni would assign me more of these kinds of projects !!! The main instructions we had to follow were:

  • The “This is Democracy” podcast will be designed to appeal to young people(teens/20’s). Dr. Suri and his guest speakers, will explore current events and how they tie back to historical events.
  • Dr. Suri would like to see your visualizations for his idea.
  • He envisions something that looks like the constitution as a backdrop, for ethnically diverse young people in their teens & 20’s. The people look modern, but they are wearing 1800’s wigs.
  • The emotional tone of the art work should match the tone of the podcast: upbeat, youthful, hopeful
  • Your designs must have the title and subtitle worked into them

The thing that I couldn’t quite work with was the 1800’s wigs, but I am hoping it would look better once I illustrate the actual wig instead of copy and pasting a badly cropped wig on the characters.

Without the wigs:

With the wigs:

I also worked on a LAH logo for Stacey:

I continued helping the new STA’s with photo ID training & ended up working on a “guide” for all the STA’s to follow, as per request by Suloni! It was adjusted a little bit because of my wording, but this is my first draft:

Suloni’s edited version:

Duo, Suloni, and I also worked on Prof. Barchas’ scanning request for her antique print. I scanned the print, and Duo helped with stitching the scans together ~seamlessly~. The outcome was amazing, and everyone was happy – especially Prof. Barchas!!

I also worked on different projects, like the CHI507 ppt/ video syncing!!

Summer!!

June 12, 2018 By Chloe Kim

After spring semester ended, there were a lot of shenanigans that went down, but everything settled down once I came back to work! I haven’t worked too much on design projects, but rather helped Suloni and the new STA’s adjust to their new office environment and the STA program.

The only design project I worked on was for PSY364 – Dr. B needed a new title slide, and I had fun making it!

<before>

Instructions:

  • TITLE (use the popculture font): “Its Dr’B’s Morning Review Show” Due Jun 5
  • frame: pop culture TV frame
  • foreground= GIANT COFFEE!
  • inside frame:  DR.BRADBURY ON THE COUCH (cut-out)
  • bg= BIG SUN BEHIND

<After>

I continued working on TBH and testing out the interactives that the coding STA’s have worked on so hard!! It was mainly testing out the URL’s (both Dev and original) on the tablet and the desktop. Our spreadsheets were full of red “FIX IT’s,” but now it is almost all green “FIXED”!!!

In other times, I helped new STA’s like Bridget with the photo ID training and will also start on the cascade training.

A L S O, worked with a super cool antique print brought to the office by Prof. Barchas; we had to make 4 scans of the different sections, and I have assigned Duo to stitch them up into one nice piece. Can’t wait to see her work!

I also worked on a lot of office whiteboard organizations (putting up people’s schedule, etc.).
