Wow, I cannot believe that summer is more than halfway done! It is amazing that I still get the opportunity to work at LAITS as a brand new UT graduate. Since I got back from Korea, I have been mainly focusing on helping the new STA’s (Maddy and Abriella) adjust by assigning them basic trainings. This includes photo ID training, .psd/.ai trainings, etc. We also went through orientation, and I loved our ~circle of trust~. It’s great seeing new faces and the strengths that everyone brings to the table. I’ve also been helping Suloni out with the process of picking prospective STA’s by coming up with a writing assignment to see the applicants’ writing style, as well as their abilities to communicate professionally. Here’s a snippet of the instructions that I wrote for the activity:

I have also been working on vlabs like most people. The past week, I assigned myself a few interactives from Lab 10 Sec 4 (click on the image for the .gif to work!!):

Last week, I also got the opportunity (?) to work with Chad, Marla, and Suloni on the Fall 2019 Advisor’s Flyer. Suloni initially warned me about the thousands of layers, and… she was right! It was kind of hard to navigate through the layers because a lot of it was unorganized, but I can’t blame it, there are so many components to the flyer. I mean, those flags and cores were everywhere!! But alas, Suloni and I teamed up and we were able to produce a flyer that met all the required needs:

Since the STA presentation is now ~over~, I’ve been getting back on track with my other assignments, such as v-labs. I worked on lab 1 sec 5 Quiz this time, and this is what it looks like:

The past week, I have been trained by Emily & Valerie to start making .psd assets for V-labs, which is the online Anthropology class we’ve been working on. Now it is time to tackle the interactives!!!

I created bunch of different clickable AND type-able assets for this interactive. Not only was this my first assignment, but this particular one was tricky, because there are technically 2 different interactives going on (top + bottom). I somehow managed to figure it all out, and I ended up making over 50 different assets. Although making these interactive assets requires a lot of thinking, I kind of like it because it feels like problem-solving/ working with puzzle pieces. It helps a lot to label all the different layers, no matter how many there may be!

Here’s the second interactive I worked on, which was a LOT easier than the first assignment:

The stationary background; the text box will have different instructions before/ after you take a quiz. I had to change some of the wordings of the instructions, because there are certain things that canvassar cannot do, which is to see which answers student got right/wrong.

I made an “answer key” when you click the “Check” button, so that the students can compare their answers with the correct ones.

It’s been pretty slow since we got back from spring break, b u t! I have been working mostly on the upcoming STA presentation. I finally finished my keynote, and so all I have left is to master my presentation skills! (yep, I’m a noob)

Just a personal update: Ya girl got her first freelancing gig (outside UT) !!!!! I’ve been contacted by this guy through my portfolio, and I ended up collaborating with him on scientific illustrations for this company in Switzerland for an article they are trying to publish. I was so happy that all the hard work and effort put into the textbook illustrations paid off in a way that allows me to keep growing as a graphic designer & illustrator. & not related to design/ graphics at all, I really felt the need to share the beauty of the Grand Canyon, Antelope Canyon, and Sedona with y’all (even though iPhone 7 camera don’t do it justice) !! Everyone should visit Arizona !!
