Progress on RUS407 Animations and the Finalization of the Oleg Family Tree!

October 17, 2017 By Tate Gibson

Hello world! First and foremost, I now have  a completed Oleg Family Tree! I have posted that file here along with some of the earlier drafts to show some of the process. And I am getting close to wrapping up all of the basic symbols and animations for RUS407, I have included some of the progress I’ve made there as well. The dog walk cycle has been looped with three different colors so it can be used with three different dogs. There are also some set pieces and I added a range of eyebrow movements to give the characters more expression. I have learned so much from working on both of these projects, I’m looking forward to working on illustrating the Oleg scene that the Family Tree will appear in as well as finalizing some of these RUS 407 animations! Oh, and I also completed an STA blog picture! I have included that illustration at the end.

Animation and Illustration Progress

October 9, 2017 By Tate Gibson

It’s been a little while since I’ve posted a progress report so I thought I’d share some stuff today! I’ve been chugging along on both the Family Tree for the Oleg Illustrations and the animations for RUS407 online lectures and have made a lot of progress! Included here are a number of animation symbols, sets, costumes and cycles that I’ve completed! The Family Tree is almost complete, I’ll wait until it is finished to upload it;)

A “Mother” outfit
A “Lecture Hall”
A Briefcase and Fedora for some office scenes.
Will be on the map of the world for some animations where a plane flies in between Russia and America.
Will also be on a map of the world for the animations where a plane flies between America and Russia, may have snow on it or leaves falling down depending on the season.

Progress Report

September 25, 2017 By Tate Gibson

Made some good progress the last few days! Last week I was assigned a “Family Tree” illustration for the Oleg drawings. On Friday I found some reference material and made a mock-up of my planned illustration, and today I started drawing it, managing to get a large portion of the tree finalized! I also animated a calendar with pages being torn off, an animated symbol that will be used in a large portion of the RUS407 Animations! I included a gif of the swimming fish I completed awhile back as well. There is still a lot to do with those RUS407 Animations but I’m eager to keep making progress on them and the family tree!

Busy Week

September 21, 2017 By Tate Gibson

Haven’t really been able to post this week but I’ve done some good work! I’ve added more symbols to the collection for the RUS407 animations, like a waitress outfit and a canoe. I also started working on a large family tree for Polina’s family for the Oleg Illustrations! So far I’ve just made an ornamental nameplate for the family members’ names and sepia filter photos of each family member, I’ve included a few here.

More RUS407 Symbols

September 18, 2017 By Tate Gibson

Today I worked on going through the list of needed symbols for the RUS407 Animations and completed the Cafe Set and the Fish Animated Swim cycle. Both of these will be used for multiple different animations! With the Cafe Set, I’d love to add a few more adornments to really tie the set together (pictures on the wall, a rug, etc.) but this is the bare minimum to have a working set for those animations! Excited to get some more symbols knocked out soon!

Cafe Set. Like I said Id love to add a couple things but this will work for now. The drinking glass can have any color liquid inside or be empty!
Obviously cannot show motion with just a picture but this guy is animated! Swims in a loop.

General Updates

September 12, 2017 By Tate Gibson

Got some good work in today! Nothing particularly interesting that can be shown with pictures, but I made a comprehensive list of all the objects/simple animations that will need to be created for RUS407 prior to animating specific scenes. The list describes the symbols, notes on drawing them, which slides they’ll be used for, reference images and whether or not the specific symbol is “quick and easy”. I also discussed with Samantha some of the reorg specifics that Dr. Rice is considering for the RUS 406 and 407 classes, and I think we may have worked out a solution that will prevent us from having to rerecord entire presentations.
