Marketing for UT Summer Courses

Freshmen Postcard

I’m currently working on the marketing campaign for UT summer courses. I was introduced to the project and to the marketing team last week, and gotten started on updating and redesigning the assets. This postcard is one of the print ads directed at freshmen to take summer classes at UT. I began with a wide variety of layout options, then narrowed it down to a few. I’ve been iterating on the color and text so far.

Screen Ads

These graphics will appear on screens in UT buildings all over campus. The edits here are pretty minimal, mainly just updating dates and classes available.

Value Institute Brochure

Final Version

This past week, the brochure finally reached completion. It’s super exciting to see how far it’s come from the beginning, and I’m really proud of how it ended up. I’ve seen how much my layout skills have improved during these past few weeks.

Infographics, Dot Patterns, and… Nearing Completion?

Value Institute Brochure

Thursday Update

This week, I moved forward on the Class Profile page. It’s my favorite page so far! I love the graphic elements and the colors. It’s really incredible to look back and see how far the brochure has come. We’re nearing the last two weeks of editing before the deadline, and I’m so excited to see how it will look at the end.

Tuesday Update

This week, I mainly focused on the cover and first spread. I designed a graphic based on a previous graphic from the Value Institute, making some aesthetic and functional changes. Because the client wanted a recreation of this specific graphic format, I had to shift around the layout. Here is the result:

I’m also working through iterations for the first page. The client feedback was that there was too much blank space. Here are a few options for the layout.

That’s it for this week!

More Brochure and Some UTFC

Value Institute Brochure

Layout Updates

These past few days, I’ve really doubled down on the edits for the brochure so that it’s ready to be sent to the client for feedback. On Friday, the client got back to me with edits, so I’ve been implementing them over the past two shifts.

For the Class Profile page, I’m updating the design for the infographic. Here’s the progress so far.

The Brochure Continues

Value Institute Brochure

Thursday Update

I was able to get valuable feedback from Maddy on Wednesday, which has given me a lot to think about and edit. Here’s the first round of edits from the meeting, mainly consisting of layout experimentation. I’ve also been considering photo choice and seeing how to best optimize the images I’ve been given to work with.

Monday & Tuesday Update

I received another two rounds of feedback this week, and we’re nearing a finalized draft to send to the client. Main changes include how to incorporate which colors where, edits to the bespoke dot pattern, and final layout tweaks on some of the spreads.

I was cleaning out the desktop yesterday, and it really is wild how far the brochure has gone from the beginning. The changes seem so small and unnoticeable, but put them all together and you can really see the progress.

Brochure and STA Crest, Part II

October 4, 2022 By Luisa Matzner

Value Institute Brochure

This week, I primarily worked on the Value Institute Brochure. It’s beginning to come together as a print composition, which is exciting. I’ve met with Maddy over the last few days to iron out layout details. It’s been challenging to find ways to improve the existing brochure, since it’s already such a strong piece. I’ve also gotten to think about things I usually don’t think about when designing, such as paying minute attention to the cropping and positioning of photos. It’s definitely been a learning experience.

Another aspect of the brochure I’ve been working on is how to incorporate the colors for both Dell Medical School and McCombs School of Business without overcluttering the palette or losing the core UT identity. This has also been a challenge, trying to balance Dell Med blue with McCombs yellow with the quite overpowering burnt orange. Here are some examples of color work on the Admissions page.

STA Crest

In between working on the brochure, I’ve also made edits to the project team STA crest, going off of De’sha’s amazing feedback! I was doing a bit of research on heraldry for a personal project, so inspiration and visuals from that crept into my design. Now, the design has mostly been finalized, and I’m just working on the finetuning.
