Week 8

October 18, 2021 By Asmita Karmakar

This week I spend most of my time back on the Blanton Project.

Project: Blanton Website Migration
Client /Prof: Blanton Museum
completion status: started work on August 23 and still continuing
staff guidance: Ruben Garza
STA team members: Marianne, Angie
description/plans: Work on migrating the current Blanton museum website pages to the WordPress site

I worked on the exhibition pages with Marianne. This is an example exhibition page that I worked on. Most of them have this similar layout. The pictures were missing but Marianne helped out with that.

A big issue is that a lot of the links were broken, so we will have to go back and fix those.

Week 7

October 11, 2021 By Asmita Karmakar

Project: PSY MUNA LAB
Client /Prof: Professor Alexandra Clark
completion status: started last week and expected to be done by Nov 8
staff guidance: Estella
STA team members: Angie
description/plans: Create a lab website for Prof. Clark on Grav/Gantry using the Duarte lab templates

I made some small styling changes:

The main title was off-centered and when the page screen was minimized it would shift to the left. The horizontal menu on the top would also bleed over to the bottom when the page.

This is the new look with the title positioned in a better place and the menu spacing fixed.

I was playing around with how to have this section styled on the page since it was kind of awkward being aligned to the left in comparison with the other sections. I created a new particle block to have this section separated from the rest. Not sure if this is the final look but it’s there for now.

I also updated the profile block from Estella’s Duarte Lab template to have the text wrap and include spaced out sections for Twitter username’s and fun facts since Prof. Clark provided more info to go along with this section than the Duarte lab.

The new MUNA lab profile blocks

I also had quite a bit of trouble with adding my changes to github which took up some time on Wednesday (Estella helped me out on Thursday).

For now, I’m done with the MUNA lab project and am switching back to Blanton until I have to add in the final changes to the homepage and other css changes.

Week 6

October 4, 2021 By Asmita Karmakar

Project: PSY MUNA LAB
Client /Prof: Professor Alexandra Clark
completion status: started last week and expected to be done by Nov 8
staff guidance: Estella
STA team members: Angie
description/plans: Create a lab website for Prof. Clark on Grav/Gantry using the Duarte lab templates

This is what the site looks like so far (added all the current content):

I’m currently focusing on the smaller style aspects like properly centering the header on the title page. It’s taking me some time to look through/modify Estella’s code that she wrote for the previous Duarte Lab project. I’ve been messing around with the margins, padding, floats, alignments, etc.

Week 5

September 27, 2021 By Asmita Karmakar

Project: PSY MUNA LAB
Client /Prof: Professor Alexandra Clark
completion status: started last week and expected to be done by Nov 8
staff guidance: Estella
STA team members: Angie
description/plans: Create a lab website for Prof. Clark on Grav/Gantry using the Duarte lab templates

This was my first time using Gantry/Grav so this past week was mostly me getting used to the application.

I met with Estella to install Grav/Gantry and set up my workspace. I got myself accustomed to the directories and where to put my code/images. I also spent most of my Monday playing around in Grav trying to familiarize myself with the CMS before starting the project.

I met with Estella again to get started working on the actual lab. I went through the box folder and started copying the information onto the site.

This is the homepage so far. (More graphics will be added later)

This is another page with the research team.

This is the Gantry layout page where I’ve been adding the particles of information. Grav is pretty similar to WordPress except there’s a lot less particles/blocks to work with so custom code is needed more. I’ve been fine for now using Estella’s code she provided on the template.

Week4 Blog Post

September 20, 2021 By Asmita Karmakar

Hi everyone! This was what I worked on for the past week:

Project: Blanton Website Migration
Client /Prof: Blanton Museum
completion status: started work on August 23 and still continuing
staff guidance: Ruben Garza
STA team members: Marianne, Angie
description/plans: Work on migrating the current Blanton museum website pages to the WordPress site

I continued working on the Blanton project with my main focus being on the exhibition pages. I copied over content from the Blanton’s past exhibition pages, it was fairly simple because they all had the same layout for the most part.

Here is an example of one of the exhibitions:

I learned how to add more complicated blocks like 360 virtual tours.

And to do this I got more familiar with the inspect tool and iFrames.

Again, it was a lot of copying and pasting.

I also attended a meeting on Thursday with Ruben, Suloni, Estella, Marianne, and Angie discussing the project and next steps, and while I really appreciate the opportunity to be working on this project and am thankful to be apart of the team, I am also excited to take a little break this week and switch my focus to a new project for a Professor and learn more about Grav (which Estella is kindly giving me a tutorial on today).

Third Blog Post

September 13, 2021 By Asmita Karmakar

Hi! This week was much like my last and I spent a majority of my time working on the Blanton Migration Project.

Project: Blanton Website Migration
Client /Prof: Blanton Museum
completion status: started work on August 23 and still continuing
staff guidance: Ruben Garza
STA team members: Marianne, Angie
description/plans: Work on migrating the current Blanton museum website pages to the WordPress site

I spent hours and hours working on the Past exhibition page which contains exhibitions dating back to 2001 and each exhibition has its own linked page with info about it.

It took me a while to create the individual pages for all the exhibitions and then link them to the parent page (past exhibitions) and figuring out the formatting of the exhibition pages which Marianne kindly helped me with . I will still be working on this going into the following week.
