Catching Up and A Winter Break Conclusion

Catching Up and A Winter Break Conclusion

Hello 🙂 Again, it has been a while, but I’m happy to say that classes started yesterday- I’m excited to be back in Austin. There aren’t many projects that I can update on, as I didn’t leave much unfinished before the break. I have however gotten back to my PSD painting training assignment, which I had put to the side over winter break to prioritize the Study Tips and Wellness project.

And of course, Study and Wellness! Now that winter break is over, this project has been concluded and I’m so happy with what I was able to accomplish with the dream team (of Athena, Miguel, and Poonum). My last post here was the still assets of the lofi hookem scene. But now even better, here are the animated videos 🙂

sadly the files are too large to upload, so instead here are images that link to the mp4 files

Reflections

It’s a new year which means new projects in my future. Reflecting back on 2020, I’ve grown so much, especially in my experience in design. And I’m so grateful for the community I have met through LAITS and the STA program. My goals for the year are to update more so I have more to look back on, and to get out of my comfort zone. And this winter break project was a great headstart in that. Working in Photoshop for illustration was familiar and let me get into detailed work with ease. However, taking to animation on After Effects was a new, fresh and challenging experience. I’m so happy 🙂

Winter Work- Study Tips Animation

Winter Work- Study Tips Animation

It has admittedly been forever since I’ve updated my blog- like usual of me :’) I need to be more proactive about posting progress, instead of completion as I begin to take on bigger, more time-consuming projects. Here is a look into how I developed the lofi scene for the LAITS study tips video.

Figma and more

Figma and more

In the last week, I’ve been providing feedback for a variety of STA training assignments, like on the infographics training which I developed with Megan- as well as Online Course Graphics and AI Icon training 🙂 I also started the Photoshop Painting training. This is the cute little teapot that I started for the assignment.

My main focus however has been FIGMA- a collaborative, web-based vector editor/ design interface tool that has become widely used for professional UI and UX design. I had no experience in UI/UX going into this training so I learned a lot from this assignment. This was my initial wireframe, and final frame, and prototype layout.

You can interact with my prototype through the embed below (hit the options at the top right to adjust display)

ISPRII and AI Logo Training

ISPRII and AI Logo Training

This week I worked purely on logo design 🙂 for AI Logo Training and for ISPRII: the Initiative for the Study of Politico-Religious Ideation and Influence. Both were initially a bit of a challenge as I thought through possible ideas that would be engaging, yet simple/minimal. These are the final works that I came up with- and the final proposal submitted to ISPRII is the blue text torch logo. I’m really satisfied with how they all turned out.

Infographics Training and After Effects Animation

Infographics Training and After Effects Animation

This week, Megan and I finished developing the KB training for making infographics. I’m so happy with how it turned out and I can’t wait for other STAs to try it out. The entire KB article can be read here, but here are some visuals for the blog 🙂

I’ve also been working on After Effects training and animated the STA banner- this is what it looks like now:

A Conclusion to Canvasser Training and More

A Conclusion to Canvasser Training and More

I’M FINALLY DONE WITH CANVASSER TRAINING! This is the interactive game that I ended up creating:

Last week I also finished the InDesign training assignment- here are my color/font choices and final design:

I’ve also been updating the homepage banner/informal logo/and faculty listing page for the Center for East Asian Studies website. They first asked for a better fitting homepage banner and followed up with a request to update to their old informal logo. I did draft a new greyed-out logo but they ultimately decided to not have any icon imagery on their page. And a bit more challenging, they requested to have their faculty listed resorted by home departments. These are the final products 🙂
