HTML & CSS Training

I’ve been working on the html & css training Thuy wrote, this training is so fun I luv!

I am making a site about houseplants, this is what I have so far: http://laits.utexas.edu/~cl44293/template1.html

First page goes over some common houseplants, second page has some general houseplant care tips, and third page will link to popular items and plant shops.

STA Showcase Flyer

FALL 2020 STA Semester Showcase Flyer

Mike has asked us to create a flyer for this super fun virtual get-together, and I was assigned to take lead on this project. Valerie suggested that the flyer could be fall/Halloween themed, these are some inspiration images she found:

I was inspired by the ghost buddy image, so I came up with this draft:

I played around with the layout and added some accessories to represent each STA team (headphone and speaker for audio, camera for video, watch for PM, keyboard for coding, and paint palette for design), here’s the progress from sketch to final:

Captioning and Weekly Update

November 6, 2020 By Athena Zeng

Captioning and Weekly Update

This week was pretty chill (at least at work). Most of the week, I worked on my Canvasser. Photoshop has been kind of tricky to use because grouping layers complicates the process of moving assets around, so I probably just shouldn’t have grouped them that early. Right now, I am working on making the edits Abriella suggested to the windows.

I also figured I would talk about the e316m captioning project Ingrid, Bridget, and I have been helping out with. Every three weeks, we will rotate who does captioning for the week.

We start by downloading the mp4 file for the week, then uploading it to the automated captioning service. It will work on the subtitling job for a while, then you will be able to download an SRT file of subtitles. These subtitles are generally pretty close to the real thing, but have a lot of little typos. For example, the word “to,” is commonly written as “thio,” and there are often weird capitalizations and spaces.

Therefore, to correct these subtitles, we upload them to the subtitle editor in Amara. It is pretty easy to use and learn, it’s just that making edits takes quite a bit of time when you are constantly pausing and restarting. I am at the mercy of my internet speed any time I do the captioning. When you finish captioning, then you will download a VTT file and upload the edited subtitles back to the video editor. I have one more week of captioning right before Thanksgiving, but yeah, it has been interesting to learn all the captioning conventions. You can’t really do all of the conventions in Amara, but it does remind you to think about readability and usability.

That’s it for the week! This week was pretty stressful outside of work, so I hope the weekend is better and I hope your weekend is good too.

Things were accomplished!

November 6, 2020 By Danielle Daynos

This week I finally finished my Canvasser! No bugs and everything. I added it to my CLIO site, and now it’s ready for people to play.

Next, I continued to work on my Studio Course Graphics Training. Made some changes to some of the wording on the titles, and made Canvas Graphics.

And one of the last things I did was make a banner for my PSD Character Design Training I made and posted it to the KB!

Basic Training: After Effects

Today I started working on the After Effects training. It’s my first time using this program (and my first time doing any animating at all) so I’m excited to experiment and learn some new skills.

I’m thinking of animating this updated version of the banner for my pixel art tutorial, because why not combine two projects? Here is what the new version is looking like, pre-animation:

And here’s a rough storyboard + my color scheme:

Pixel Art Tutorial

I’m also close to finishing my pixel art tutorial! I’ve updated a lot of the screenshots, and now I’m waiting on feedback before I finally publish it. (I also switched out my image for a photo of my dog, which I think works better with the pixel art aesthetic)

Some screenshots:

After Effects and ISPRII

November 6, 2020 By Miguel Yapur

After Effects Basic Training

This week I worked on creating my assets to animate a short film that shows the process of a sketch of Sutton Hall on campus. Below is the initial sketch for the storyboard that I had in mind starting off:

And below are a progression of the different assets I’ve been working on, starting with the sketch itself, cleaning up the background, and separating elements like construction lines, detailed pen lines, and shadows:

ISPRII Logo

On Friday I was assigned to create two initial drafts for ISPRII with some design parameters that the client wanted.

The first one emphasizes on a grid in which the letters are placed, since all the letters have no slanted lines (only vertical and horizontal) and round components, I thought it looked well inside a rectangle configuration.

The second one more focuses on both the people studying the issues and the people involved in the issues themselves. I have also included underneath how we could make this logo dynamic, showing the last two i’s as people.
