My Own Cascade Site!!

February 12, 2019 By Sanika Bhave

Ooh Artsy Cascade Site

Suloni had me complete the Cascade training tutorials with the hopes that I’ll be able to finish some Cascade projects this semester. Here’s the finished result!! I overall thought it was super fun and turned out pretty cute.

This is what the page looks like!! I tried to make it as ~artsy~ themed as possible.
What the news feed looks like! Make sure you attend my events.
The news feed. Really looks like the STAs had a blast.
I just wanted to show of my Banksy writeup.

One of the tasks was to create an “invisible” page and to create a “magic trick” with it. Here’s some snapshots of what it looked like.

Another cool task was to enter in the LAITS address & then link the box to a Google Maps display of the location. Here’s the output.

There were some cool other things like add related links (fellow STA links are linked now :’)) and contact information (I had clickers drop a line to Leonardo da Vinci). Overall I really liked working with Cascade!! I’m excited for some more projects. 🙂

Blog Avatar

Avatar Me

Since I started working later into the Fall Semester, I never created an avatar to join the other STAs in the “Backyard Party” banner at the head of this blog! So, we knew we had to remedy that so that’s what I did today. Valerie was so helpful in helping me use PhotoShop & finding an online Youtube tutorial that would make my avatar look more “cartoony.” Here’s the finished result!! Not bad for a first try.

Spring ’19

I’m baaaack!! Hey STA-ers, we’re finally back from Winter Break. So ready to start off Spring Semester!! After speaking with Suloni, it looks like for this month I’ll be working on learning how to use Cascade to help with faculty maintaining their pages. I’ll also be learning Canvasser and how to manage the assets to help with the VLabs!

So today I started the Cascade tutorials. Here’s my finished product.

Short blog post but there’s more to come 🙂

My Last post as an STA

I just want to thank everyone I’ve met over my 1 1/2 years here at LAITS. It’s been a pleasure and it truly was an amazing way to start in the tech industry and I recommend it if you are trying to get started in either graphic design or programming. Everyone here is incredibly talented and Suloni was an amazing boss. I will miss her and everyone else I’ve worked with over my time here. I never would’ve thought I’d get to work at Microsoft right out of college, I always thought it was a far away dream. LAITS gave me experience and knowledge to pursue my dream and make it a reality and I will forever be grateful for that. I will be working on Azure AI at Microsoft which, honestly, I have no idea what that entails, but it sounds awesome. It’s been a crazy fun ride here and I’m so so glad I got to experience it. I wouldn’t trade this experience for anything else.

Warfield Center Publications Collage

December 14, 2018 By Nick Lavigne

Warfield Center Faculty Publications

Justice from the Center for African & African American Studies wanted me to reorganize the current list of faculty publications in Cascade which looked like this:

they first wanted a collage as for the masthead which I just made in photoshop:

I then organized the rest of the publications using HTML tables which is basically the only thing you can do within the confines of cascade so now it looks like this:

For those interested the code for this looks like this:

We basically just set up a table with 4 sections each of 25% width which divides the table into 4 columns. If you want to see the live result on the website here’s the link:  https://liberalarts.utexas.edu/caaas/faculty/books.php
