SUMMER CLASSES 2021 POSTCARD

 

We needed to update the 2020 summer classes postcard to be ready for registration this year. I switched out the text, adjust alignment, added a gradient bar to the bottom, and brought in more of the green-blue color into the postcard. The file deliverable was a CMYK-colored pdf that would be ready to easily print. For the back of the postcard (right image) we had colored bars in places where the gradient. It was the original idea but it felt disjointed from the gradient on the front that we wanted to keep.

 

 

TYPOGRAPHY KB

I added my section to this new training about the history of typography, very short and brief. Then went over the parts and elements of space and form of letters and words that are relevant for edits we make on type in our designs. Maddy suggested a side-by-side of adobe controls for the spacing with example text so this is what it turned out to be like.

The edits were pretty minimal for this, a few edits to the year, shortening the wording, and then a colored bar version using this color palette:

 

Design History KB

To help out with KB I have been overseeing what Miguel and Poonum are putting together for their slides for review and also making suggestions to add, switch, and remove artists and designers to the KB. Maddy suggested some more graphic artists rather than just famous artists for post-modern, so I picked a few to swap out to make it more relevant to what we do here at the office.

Then to help move things along I also made the graphics for the KB such as the banner and an overview timeline. Which one we will use and edits on the design of them are still pending though.

I really enjoyed this training and it helped me get a little more comfortable with using Ai. This went through a lot of changes and simplification of information, as well as trying to add more graphic elements like on the 2nd page. I picked this red, white, pink, and blue palette to make it feel both political and also “emergency negative info-ish” if that makes sense.

 

Design Principles and Elements Basic Training

 

I created a KB that goes over the basic principles and elements of design to help build up more of the foundational skills of our designers. As an art major, we have a whole semester class just dedicated to this topic but our designers come from a wide variety of backgrounds with different strengths. This can help as a jumping-off point in terms of how we think about composition when designing as well as help build the vocabulary for talking about the parts and relationships of elements in each other’s work. I tried to keep it very simple and basic, where the real test of understanding comes in is at the end where they create a presentation discussing and identifying each of the elements and principles in out-sourced works of art.
