Description / plans: create illustrations for the COM 301E intro video for Fall 2020.
This past week have been full of illustrating (exciting!). Other than the blog caricature, I’ve also been working on some test drafts for COM 301E so that Sydney can give us some feedback on how to organize our illustration layers for animating!
Here’s my updated caricature, with my ‘spirit animal.’
This week I’ve been working mostly on the PR LGBTQ+ Logo Design. Suloni linked me some documentations on best practices in designing logos and I thought that they are very helpful. So far I’ve been more used to the illustration (more ‘free’) style, and so I thought that this project gives me great exposure to more flat, structured design principles.
Here are some drafts that I’ve done this week. Suloni wanted 2 versions, a rectangular, and a circular.
I started working on the Puerto Rico LGBTQ Logo Design. The logo will be presented on PRLGBTQ website as well as their Twitter profile picture. Here’s my initial hand sketches.
For now, I don’t know yet whether the client wants the logo with the text or not, so my sketches presented both versions. I’m waiting to hear back from the client on this!
And here are my first two attempts.
I like the first version better because I think it has more of a ‘movement’ and isn’t as stiff as the second one, but I thought it was worth playing with the brush strokes on the second one anyway! For some ‘technical’ details, I was using Illustrator for creating the logo skeleton (also my first time actually understanding how the pen tool works!), and then I transferred the Ai file into Ps for some manipulations (added textures, brush strokes, etc.)
I’m super excited for this project, because I haven’t gotten to work on some graphics for a while now!
Since we’re getting ready for online classes, another tool that we were required to familiarize ourselves with is Panopto. Currently, LAITS is suggesting faculties using Panopto for prerecorded lectures and Zoom for live discussions / lectures. Here’re some of my attempts at Panopto.
