Online Course Design Assets Menu

I’ve been working on a master template for the Online Course Assets we’ve been working on. Suloni wanted to have this so that at the end of Summer, when all of the online course designed have been completed by the STAs, we can have a list of PDFs to show the Project Managers.

Here are my first drafts of the Menu. I made a template one with placeholders, and an example one with one of the courses that I made.

After checking in with Suloni and Valerie, Suloni suggested that I add another section for the assets provided by the professor to demonstrate how we fit our designs into the original one. Here they are.

I also got another online course, CE 333T or Engineering Communication. This one is much simpler because the professor decided to go with Style A, which only requires the her headshot. These are still waiting to be approved.

RTF 328C or WGS 324C Gender and Media Culture

Just yesterday I got assigned with the task of designing the online course assets for RTF 328C / WGS 324C – Gender and Media Culture. Since there’s a template (thank you Valerie and Sheryl), it is pretty quick to put together everything. Here are my first drafts.

After getting feedback from Suloni and Valerie, we decided to keep the colors of the image as well as changing the font because they fit better with the professor’s current PowerPoint. Here are the final versions.

And lastly, the Canvas Buttons.

Cascade Editor Shortcuts Documentation

After Tim’s references to the keyboard shortcuts for the WYSIWYG keyboard in Cascade and suggested a documentation, I drafted out a page on my Cascade site on the most commonly used shortcuts. This got an okay from Suloni, so I went ahead and publish this on the Cascade How To on the COLA Help Guides.

FR 611C Updates

I’ve been assigned this task to ensure that all of the external links in the Canvas page of the course FR 611C works. I made a spreadsheet and started with the Review Module, which is the one that the professor wanted me to look at first. So far no broken links have been found when I tested them on Chrome and Safari, so we’re waiting on the Prof’s response to see which browser she’s using (Valerie suspects it might be a browser problem).

I also found another problem, which is one of the internal linked images for a quiz is broken in Safari, but works in Chrome. I looked into this, and it seems like this is due to Apple’s update on Safari to limit third-party resources. Canvas is identified as a third-party in this case, so therefore this file doesn’t work.

Cascade Help Request

I recently helped a client with a Cascade request to reformat the site, adding line breaks where desired. Here’s some before – after format images (the client wants to add line breaks where the yellow highlighting is):

It was a pretty quick fix, I went into the Cascade HTML editor and added <br> tags to where necessary. I noticed that in the Cascade Rich Content Editor, Enter produces a new empty <div> element rather than a line break. Then Tim informed me of the shortcut Shift + Enter, which produces a line break in Cascade. I wasn’t aware of this shortcut, so I thought it’s really helpful to know. Tim also mentioned that the shortcuts aren’t well-documented and gave me a list of documented shortcuts published. I discussed with Suloni, and we’ll probably have a shortcut documentation on Cascade soon.
