Weekly Classical Music Recommendation
This week I present Schumann’s favourite composition, claimed by the composer himself, Kreisleriana. The work aims to portray the musical version of E. T. A. Hoffmann’s fictious, eccentric, wild, and witty conductor Kapellmeister Kreisler. The contrapunctal characters presented in the piece supposedly represent Schumann’s “Florestan” and “Eusebius,” the two contrasting characters Schumann used to describe himself (which is interesting to note, considering the composer might have had schizophrenia). Anyways, here is the piece.
