FOCUS, And more Course Graphic Training.

FOCUS, and more Course Graphic Training

It’s been a while since I’ve updated my progress 🙁 but I’ve been working on a project for the undergraduate studies department. The slides you see below are for a video to share tips with new students on how to be a successful online student- I’m excited to see the final product created by the rest of the LAITS department 🙂

Additionally, I’ve been making more progress on Course Graphic Training. Yesterday I completed graphics and design menus in both styles A and B, and today I’ve worked on placing the graphics into canvas via sandbox.

Cascade Conclusion, Online Course Graphics, and the FOCUS Graphic

August 3, 2020 By Angie Huang

Cascade Conclusion, Online Course Graphics, and the FOCUS Graphic

During the last week of July, I worked on the following:

Cascade Training: I finally concluded this assignment by adding icons within a custom layout and pull quotes. Figuring out how to format pull quotes with color and correct spacing was a bit of a challenge but Thuy helped me with my HTML code. Reflecting upon the Cascade training assignment as a whole, I’m proud of how much coding I was able to learn. Here are some screenshots of my final site.

I also started Online Course Graphics. Here’s the complete package I worked on in Style A. Something odd that I noticed is that the buttons and banners preview as different shades of green on my computer despite sharing the same hex code; I’m not sure what causes that to happen, as the graphics look same in color on my laptop :/

Lastly, I started drafts for the “FOCUS” assignment. The most promising idea that I will continue developing is the illustrated letters (on the top right). Although my first and initially favorite idea was the block letters (in the bottom left), I feel that it lacks potential since it doesn’t have any “UT” flair to it 🙁 Developing ideas for such an open-ended request has been kind of difficult, but I’m nonetheless excited to have this as my first illustration assignment.

Photo IDs, Banners, InDesign, and Cascade

Photo IDs, Banners, InDesign, and Cascade

I’ve been up to a lot recently, so here’s a big complication of my work from this week:

To start, I finally got around to creating a banner for my blog, as you can see above. I used Adobe Illustrator to create the simple leaves in the background, which complement my major and love of botany. And carrying over from last week, I updated speaker profiles and episode transcriptions for the podcast “Second Reading.” I also got the opportunity to edit more photo IDs.

Additionally, I also helped update a banner for the Class, RUS406. Suloni requested that I edit an old banner graphic with new text, and use that graphic in a new canvas page illustration created by Valerie.

Yet another project that I worked on this week is Indesign training. This is probably the assignment that I had the most fun doing- as article layout is something I am already familiar with and thoroughly enjoy. Here are the final spreads; I’m quite satisfied with how the pages turned out.

And lastly, I’ve been continuing Cascade site training. So far I’ve learned to create three different types of tables. I used these HTML tables to create a new page on my test site, which features lofi music that I’ve been listening to lately. You can check it out here

Digital Monitor Backdrops

Digital Monitor Backdrops

In addition to Cascade, I also worked on digital monitor backdrops this week. These are my final drafts for review. I don’t have much to say regarding this assignment, other than that I had a lot of fun exercising my photo editing skills in Photoshop. Also, this assignment makes me miss the campus- I hope it won’t be long before things return to normal and I can enjoy Austin again :’)

Cascade Site Training

Cascade Site Training

This week I completed the “CMS Cascade Site Training” assignment on Basecamp. This is my final test site -> https://liberalarts.utexas.edu/sta-8/

The assignment was probably *the* most difficult project I’ve worked on thus far, as I am not experienced with web design/editing. Furthermore, this was my very first time using Cascade. However, with Thuy’s help with the media player and navigation bar, I learned a lot from going through the KB instructions. It’ll be very exciting to use Cascade and the skills I’ve gained in future assignments!

Photo ID Training

Today I completed my basic photo ID training, which entailed editing and cropping photos for upload onto the COLA website. Here is my final work!

This training assignment helped improve my eye for portrait editing, and I had no issues uploading my edited images using the COLA web editor. I now feel much more confident continuing such projects in the future!
